New Release!

description
‘THE wind bellows through the tunnel as a train rushes the platform. I move forward, trying to anticipate which carriage to go for. The platform isn’t packed but my bag is large. An empty carriage would make things easier.

It’s still light, early evening, and people are in their social groove.

As I enter, standing, with my bag swung to the floor of the carriage; I notice a group of women dressed-up for a night out. It looks like a hen night. The girls are singing, laughing, cuddling. One has a cheap veil on her head and it has slipped tenuously to one side, about to fall off. None seem bothered as they sway, happily to the soft tones of American valley-girl-pop music emanating from a small handheld JBL.

They look ridiculously happy. Their world is good.

They smile at me and I smile back.

And despite feeling a touch envious, I am happy for them.

None of us, I feel, will ever fully understand life, hence the importance of enjoying such moments. …’
(Sheridan©L.S. Bergman 2025)

This is a snippet from my new release ‘Sheridan', a short story, presented in a cut-up style, a non-linear reflection on the state of the protagonist’s mind, as she struggles with heartache. Sheridan’s thoughts, her search and her narrative, drift from the present to the past and to the future, mirroring a kind of chaotic search for meaning in her life after an abrupt break with her current boyfriend, sparks a confrontation with the nihilism of much of the landscape she witnesses strewn around her.

Sheridan’s youthful, be it sporadic, nature and exuberance are not without depth or the desire to embrace new more mature directions. She knows … deep down … what she really wants, having experienced what no longer serves her.

Set in Germany, this ‘cut-up’ is an adult, short, literary narrative. It’s a brief work of realism. One woman’s perspective on her life, with a romantic theme threaded throughout, delving into the painful and oft messy, ups and downs and sometimes … sideways … slants to intimacy and the quirky paths which lead to the right commitment.

Moirai's Star

#newrelease #InfluencerShortStory

description

Moirai’s words: "What is my life really about? Until recently, it has been about ‘performance’. An image carefully constructed. Every detail worked out in advance, to calculated effect. The effect being to tantalise and impress. To impress others, you see, in my game means to earn money. To garner attention is to influence hearts and minds but to ‘impress’ upon the psyche a certain desire for that person to then act in a certain way? Now that is the way I get paid. It’s worked for a while and I’ve earned well but I’ve also compromised a lot. Cause that’s what nobody tells you. There’s a trade-off to this game, a downside. And sometimes these serial trade-offs drag you in a direction you don’t wanna go in, a direction of losing your soul. Sometimes other things, in my case a certain someone, begin to count far more than those old ideas of ‘success’. Y’know, the stuff I thought were supposed to make me happy." Mona aka Moirai's story is a short in the Fabled Love Series, a series of books that can be read in any order delving into certain life situations. This is the 5th instalment, available on #Kindle ... https://www.amazon.com/Moirais-Star........

An Undiscovered Plea

#NewRelease #blackromance #musicbiz
‘’Persistence’. Now that’s a word. ‘Determination’ … is another. Carl's 'mogul status' and general recalcitrance is making it difficult to resist the delusional ease of wanting a certain type of woman to materialise on cue. Jocelyn Clance is however unfazed by his kinds of moves ... available as eBook ... https://www.amazon.com/Undiscovered-P... ...

New Release

This is a departure for me, in a shorts series which is playing on a fable theme (Book 1 ‘Before U Go’). ‘Georgia Lights‘ is the second short about identity, entrepreneurship, friendship, betrayal, family history, cultural geography and of course … love.

This is the story of Georgia Ellis, a woman of mixed heritage (continue reading ... https://lsbergman.com/2021/10/01/next... )

Beach vibe dreamin'

Happy hump day everyone!! This week is flying, I tell you! But, I thought to do a teaser check-in on a Caribbean romance I released last year, partly 'cause I'm missing the beach vibe and can't wait for summer lol and partly due to the fact I'm working on the next in series. Happy Valentine's Sample

Wishing everyone a loved-up 'Happy Valentine's Day! To celebrate, here's a Sunday Sample from one of my WIPs, a #blackromance which is turning into a full-length. I started out thinking 'short story' & as often happens it balloons into something bigger. Enjoy!

WIP Sample Sunday:
description

"Thankfully, we were now alone, so she didn't have to hold face. She was letting her guard down.

The moment felt stretched. But I was happy to let it be, leave the silence alone, to haunt us one more time, allowing my eyes to roam and feast, no lie, happy to savor the soft resonance of her sweet voice. It'd been too long. Too damn long. Countless nights of conjuring different scenarios in this playbook, unsure of how this very moment, after countless replays sounding like familiar lullabies in my head, would come together, from many possibilities to this one sobering singularity.

"Yeah, y'know, I always wanted to check this place out," my smile broadened. "Seemed like the right time, if you know what I mean."

"The right time, huh?" She bit her bottom lip, hiding half a smile.

I could feel her energy slipping in and out of mine, her aura pulsing, the tempo of my heart racing to suit. It'd been too long. To repeat. Too damn long. There was a lassitude to our souls. So there was no stopping this. The inevitable. We were already entangled even if we were bad at admitting it, even if we'd tried, struggled, and failed to let each other be. Edie and I were already joined even if in this moment we had yet to touch.

It didn't used to have to be this way, I thought, straightening my spine.

We were never shy of showing affection, of giving and receiving pleasure.

"I missed you," I said, dipping my gaze with a frown.

An incredible release of energy flooded the space between us.

"You did?" she gasped, and I couldn't decipher whether she found it a crazy thing to generally miss somebody or to specifically be missing her. I didn't find either option foolish.

Her breath hitched in her throat, a reflex which surfaced whenever Ed tended to get ... excited.

"You know I did," I said, unable to rein in my salacious gaze ...
