"a novel by Kathi Nidd" - those words mean a little bit more than I anticipated
a novel by Kathi Nidd". Those are words I've longed to see on a cover for a very long time. Obviously, I am over the moon excited because my first novel is out but two other emotions have risen to the surface over this past week.
The first is that I actually finished it! I completed a 72,000+ word novel. After my writing mentor asked me in January 2015 if I had a writing resolution, I spoke without thinking that I wanted to commit to one project and finish it. I made myself a written down commitment to Snowdrifts that month and swore that no other writing or life distractions would stand in my way.
They tried. Oh how they tried!
But with the help of my small journal, I jotted the writing ideas down for safe keeping and kept Snowdrifts on the front burner for over a year. And with the help of some amazing supporters, life priority setting and an editor who got to know my characters as well as I did, my book is now released to the world!
The second emotion, which could leave a writer lost for words, is the number of family, friends, fellow writers and acquaintances have surrounded me with well wishes and told me that my motivation to do this while working full time and tending to other obligations has inspired them.
In a world where we see criticism, jealousy and negativity shoot across the globe with ease, I've instead been surrounded by those who have done nothing but cheer for my success. Imagine if we all took the time to do that for everyone's achievements large and small?
