On September 30th I will be launching the Isle of Elsi Book Three Kickstarter!

The goal is to raise enough money to print the third hardback collection of my award-winning, Eisner-nominated webcomic, Isle of Elsi. This will be a full color, 136-page book which collects the 113-page story "R.J. Jr. in The Underground Underground" and about 20 pages of bonus material.

I'll be offering hardback copies (and eBooks) of all three Isle of Elsi books, plush ites, virtual class visits, and for the first time ever, original art!

This week I finished my latest animation project: a 96-frame pixel art loop called "Regulate A.I.!" which you can see above.

This took more than 38 hours of work spread across three months to complete. I did the animation with Toon Boom Harmony and the digital "ink and paint" with Pixquare. I documented the entire process, from concept sketch to finished animation in a series of free Patreon posts.

I'm releasing this GIF under a creative commons license so that folks can use it for free to help spread the word about fighting back against Artificial Intelligence.

This is the fourth and final installment of the "R.J. Jr. in The Underground Underground" storyline.

Last week I completed the seventh Isle of Elsi storyline, “R.J. Jr. in The Underground Underground” which took two years to draw, and another year before that to write. You can read the whole story for free, starting here. In the last nine years I’ve posted 400 pages of Isle of Elsi!

In this moment, when the U.S. Government is actively trying to suppress trans and nonbinary people’s rights, I think it’s important to publicly state that on page 41 of this story Sally is specifically thinking about her gender, after being exposed to the Dwarf’s culture which treats gender very differently than the Human culture she was raised in. It’s my intention that Sally’s character arc across this series will contain a gender journey towards a nonbinary or trans identity.

To help me make sure that journey feels authentic I have enlisted the help of my good friend Maia Kobabe who has agreed to be a consultant on forthcoming Isle of Elsi storylines with a particular eye towards Sally's character.

I know for a fact that I currently have multiple trans and nonbinary kids who read Isle of Elsi. To them I say: I’m going to work hard to make sure you can see yourself and your experiences in Isle of Elsi. You belong here. You can be the main character of a story.

To anyone who has hatred in their heart for trans people, especially for trans kids, I say: please find another webcomic to read.

Starting this week I’m taking my customary hiatus so I can write the next two Isle of Elsi short stories. After I draw and post those pages, they will be collected into the third Isle of Elsi book. Thanks to everyone who has supported this independent, self-published fantasy series over the years!

I'm also offering an Underground Preorder Pack where you will get all four issues that make up this story arc as they are released (and save a bit on shipping in the process!). I have already shipped out #8 to existing preorder folks, and any future orders will receive the first three issues, and then the fourth and final issue (#9) in March.

Radiator comics has also added Isle of Elsi Adventures #6, so you can throw that in your shopping cart with a bunch of other great minicomics by a variety of creators! Radiator will be adding #7, #8, and #9 eventually too.

In 2023 I was hired by weezer to do a bunch of illustration and animation work for their Indie Rock Roadtrip tour visuals (which are displayed behind the band while they perform). All this work was directed by Brad and Brian Palmer at SRND Studio in Brooklyn, NY.

In this reel I tried to only highlight the animation work that I did. In some cases this includes recreating a simpler version of a shot from the show to provide context for the animation, and to not show other people's work. You can watch the show on YouTube, to see all the various ways the talented motion graphics designers and animators at SRND plussed my illustrations and added their own elements to make a killer show. I also included a few animations that I created which were not used in the show, seen here for the first time!

This show was such a dream project for me (weezer is my favorite band)! I learned a lot by animating all kinds of different things (lots of effects, a few characters) and using different techniques (hand-drawn, motion tweens, rotoscoping).

I don't have the rights to put any weezer music under this, so you'll just have to turn up your favorite weezer song while you watch this!

Isle of Elsi Adventures #6 is now available for online ordering! This full-color, floppy comic book collects the first 28 pages of "R.J. Jr. in The Underground Underground" which picks up right where the second Isle of Elsi book collection left off.

When Draziw the Wizard casts a spell incorrectly in Nogard the Dragon's cave, hundreds of stalagmites and stalactites come to life! This mishap leads Rex and Sally into an adventure deep underground where they discover a clan of dwarves. Mysteries abound the first installment of this action-packed story!

I'm also offering an Isle of Elsi Adventures Underground Preorder Pack for the four issues which will collect the entire 113 pages of "R.J. Jr. in The Underground Underground." Each issue will be sent as they become available, while also saving a bit on shipping costs.

Today weezer released the Blue Album 30th Anniversary Box Set. As you can see above, it is an incredible thing to behold. Included in both the vinyl and cd boxed sets is a sticker sheet that I illustrated - an updated* version of the memories tour poster I illustrated back in 2010.

Below is a clip from the promotional launch video, where you can see what the stickers look like! (PLEASE NOTE: This is an 9MB gif, so it might take a while to load on slower connections).

*These illustrations were also used on the cover of my book weezer fan: Phase 7 #017-#019. Years ago I was exhibiting my work at a comics show and a chemist came up to my table and looked at this book. He snidely laughed, and pointed out that I had drawn the carbon dioxide molecules incorrectly (with the oxygen molecules tilted up in a "V" instead of in a straight line). Uh... I think chemistry may have been my weakest subject in high school? Anyway, I finally corrected this glaring error on this sticker sheet, so chemists can look at it without rolling their eyes!

I've updated my illustration portfolio website! I was getting tired of using SquareSpace, which kept jacking up its prices year after year, so I rebuilt the site using Google Sites, and just linked the old domain. Hopefully it looks and works just about the same, and will be easier (and cheaper) for me to update.

I pretty much just recreated the old site, but I did manage to update a few things!

- I added an animation page with my demo reel and a few animation projects (more to come eventually)- I added a site map page to make it easier to find some of the pages that are not in the top navigation bar- I added a weezer index page, with separate sub-pages for each of the illustration / design / animation projects I have done with my favorite band
