What makes this boxed set so special? You might be asking yourself what makes this boxed set so special, and I'm more than happy to tell you. See, there's nothing like this out there. Usually when you go looking for collections of books, one of two things happens, you either find the same novels you've seen everywhere else, most of which you can get for free, or you find a collection chock full of books filled with half-naked alphas and domineering vampires. Now, both of those things are cool, but that's not what this collection entails. No, the guys and girls in these novels are way more likely to punch a vampire in the face than make out with one. Hey, there's nothing wrong with being saved, but sometimes a girl has got to take things into her own hands, like you know, a stake. You will also find that each novel in this set is actually for sale on one or more venders for far more than the sticker price of this set. This isn't a set filled with freebies designed to entice you into purchasing something you could find for free. No, this collection of over one million words retails for over fifty dollars, and it's all your for a buck. If that isn't a steal, I don't know what else. Some of the books within the set have sold thousands of copies by themselves, and almost all of them enjoy several four and five star reviews. Chances are you'll find at least one of your new favorite series within, and likely more, all for only a buck. That's a deal that's hard to beat.
So who wouldn't like this set? There's always someone who doesn't like something, and if you're on the fence about this set, I'll try to warn you off right now.If you don't like kick ass men and women who stake vampires, pummel werewolves, and shoot zombies all while maintaining their snarky senses of humor, this boxed set isn't for you.If you don't like books who will bring you into a world full of fantasy, magic, and mayhem, this boxed set isn't for you.If you don't like books with hundreds of four and five star reviews, this boxed set isn't for you.If you don't like paying $0.99 for 21 full-length novels, this boxed set isn't for you.If you are expecting hot, steamy romance full of bare-chested werewolves getting it on, this boxed set isn't for you.If you don't want to read books that will pull you in and not let you go until you've read all their sequels, this boxed set isn't for you.Okay, you keep saying 21 novels, but what exactly does that mean?I thought you'd never ask. Here's a list of what's included in this set:Burned by Magic - Jasmine WaltCome, the Dark - Rebecca HamiltonThe Sorcery Code - Dima Zales & Anna ZairesUnbound - Emily GoodwinLegally Undead - Margo Bond CollinsWardbreaker - J.A. CiprianoQuartz - Rabia GaleChased by Fire - D.K. HolmbergWaterwitch - Thea AtkinsonAdamant - Emma L. AdamsThe Sunken - S.C. GreenHeart of the Kraken - A.W. ExleyThe Atomic Sea - Jack ConnerRebel's Honor - Gwynn WhiteEcho in Time - Lindsey FairleighThe Hunt for Snow - S.E. RabinThey're So Vein - Susan StecChameleon - K. De LongBrooding City - Tom ShuttDeath is But a Dream - Erin HayesPower Shift - Calinda B.Trust me, with 21 novels from twenty-two New York Times, USA Today, and International bestselling authors, you're getting more than enough bang for your buck. Just don't start this set late at night if you value your sleep, because I guarantee you'll be up WAY past your bedtime! This incredible boxed set is only going to be around at $0.99 for a limited time, so make sure you grab your copy today!

New Release Schedule

Hi all!

Due to some unforeseen (and some foreseen) circumstances, I've had to re-work my release schedule. Some books will come sooner, and some will, unfortunately, come later.

We've had a lot of work going on in the house, since June actually. Then, just when we thought things were getting all good, we found mold.

Cue scary movie music. That was a serious pain in the ass to fix, but thankfully we knew someone who had a mold removal company, and he made it as easy on us as possible.

On the publishing note, without saying too much, I've taken the rights back to all of my books from Liquid Silver and Corvallis Press. The Abby books have already been re-released with shiny new covers and shiny new edits.

The Snow books are coming next. I've been advised my books will drop off of Amazon by February 29th, allowing me to pick them back up and publish at a more reasonable price, with a much better cover. Snow's Lament is already under my control and is now up for pre-order.

Plotting Mr. Perfect has a new cover and is just waiting for me to take control!!

This schedule is ambitious, but if I know one thing about myself, it's that I need a plan and a way to attack it. I have both. With a supportive husband who doesn't mind occasionally picking up the slack, I am on board to kick some ass and take some names this year.

Thank you for all the love you've shown my books, my characters, and me!!

And now, the new schedule in graphic form. Here's to a great new year!

Lovely author Engy Neville has a major sale going on right now. Check out her book!!
Book BlurbThe morning after hanging an antique painting, Lexi Carter notices strange noises in her living room. Scared beyond words, she confronts the sounds only to discover that the landscape itself has come alive. Did Roman soldiers on horseback just gallop across the thing?
She impulsively touches the painting and is sucked into the world of ancient Pompeii. Lexi meets Marcus, a Roman Adonis, who occupies her every thought, and sends her senses into a tailspin.
The year is 59AD and Pompeii is at its peak of glory and prosperity. Lexi is faced with the decision of choosing between two worlds, her modern day Los Angeles or ancient Pompeii...with the man who captured her heart and soul.

Liebster Blog Award!

I am so excited to have been nominated for The Liebster award. It’s an award given to new bloggers and is given among the blogger community to get to know each other and highlight a new blogger. Engy Albasel Neville, Romance Author, nominated my blog, Stumbling Toward the Finish Line.

My blog tends to be pretty random, especially when it’s around Christmas time and I see all kinds of shiny things. Sometimes it’s about writing, sometimes it’s about books and sometimes it’s about just...stuff.

Thanks to Engy for the nomination. I haven’t known Engy long, but we just participated in an anthology recently and I know she’s cool people.

Engy has asked me to answer a series of questions:

What was your first blog about? If you looked at my blog now, it was a cover reveal. If you look at my much older blogs, I used to write given topics on Myspace. So someone would say write about an alien experience, and off I would go writing something completely random about aliens.

How do you pick the topics for your blog? Normally, they’re given to me now because most of my energy goes into my novels.

Have you ever shared a blog that you later regretted? And if so, what was it & why did you regret it? Yes. It was about an incident I had. No one knew, but I deleted it just a few minutes after posting it. Sometimes blogging is cathartic, but it doesn’t always mean you should press “publish.”

If you could time travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and what time frame? The Scottish Highlands in the 1600’s. I’d stuff soap down my corset before I went though.

Describe the idea man for your main character? Strong. Witty. Not afraid of a ballsy female heroine.

Who’s your favorite heroine? Kate Daniels from Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series

What’s the most memorable meal you’ve ever cooked? Oh man…there’s a lot of them. The most fun was crab legs.

What’s your latest book about? The disasters of dating. It’s super sekret squirrel

If you could play any character on TV from any decade, who would you be? Private Benjamin. I lived that life!

Beach or Mountains? Mountains. Always.

If you weren’t an author, what would you be? I’d probably still be in the military.

Unfortunately, all the people I hoped to nominate have already been nominated, and I don't know too many others with a blog.

Thanks for the nomination, Engy!

When Alex snags the attention of Beckett Dean, the most popular guy in high school, she knows something is afoot. After all, she’s nerdy, awkward and her braces can be seen from outer space. Surely Beckett’s interest isn’t romantic.

Beckett is focused on popularity and maintaining his rep as one of the coolest guys in school. When Alex becomes a target for the town’s annual April Fools’ joke, Beckett reluctantly befriends her, only to ultimately ruin the rest of her high school days. Devastated at his behavior, he tries for weeks to apologize. Alex, though, wants nothing to do with him.

Fast forward several years. Alex is successfully running her own business. She still thinks about Beckett, but in an angry stabby way. When their paths collide once again, will Beckett’s apologies still fall on deaf ears or will she finally grant him the forgiveness he seeks?

se-babinS.E. Babin has a passion for writing books with a paranormal twist. Whether it's romance or mystery, she loves taking the norm and turning it into the extraordinary. Her love of reading turned into a curious exploration to see whether or not she could write her own novel. Beginning with random, terrible poetry and a slightly popular reimagining of Beowulf's Grendel in her high school English class, Sheryl spent way too much time in the library, killing any chance of her becoming a cheerleader or anything even remotely cool.

Once Upon a Time...Things Got Real.

Welcome to the next stop on The Fairy Tale Fun Blog Hop!

I have to admit, when I was asked to compare my main characters to princesses, I was stumped for a moment. I write independent, sometimes wildly weird women, so this was a bit of a challenge because the first thing that popped into my head was the Disney princesses. I love Disney, but up until Brave, their princesses were decidedly the damsels in distress and not the ass-kicking heroines we're beginning to see (Yay Disney!) So, without further ado, my little Katie, the main character in Plotting Mr. Perfect is probably best represented by Merida from Brave.

Image from Pixar/Disney What? Merida?! Yep. If you've read the book, you'll know that Katie is a bit of a free-spirited nerd. While I wouldn't go so far as to call Merida a nerd, I would definitely say Merida owns her weirdness. She's independent in the Highlands of Scotland, where marriage within the clans is imperative. She chooses her own path and pushes forward even at the disapproval of everyone she loves. Katie is the same way. Although she might be a little more subtle about it, Katie has her stuff together and doesn't mind being the odd woman out. Mel, on the other hand, is a bit of a bad ass. She's lean, a little mean, possesses a genius intellect and gets stuff done. She was a little bit tougher to choose and then I remembered something many, many people have forgotten. Wonder Woman is a FREAKING WARRIOR PRINCESS OF THE AMAZONS. Yes, she sure is.

Image from DC Comics If you're interested in checking Katie and Mel out, click on the link below the Plotting Mr. Perfect cover and it will take you over to Amazon.

What Batman Teaches Us About Characterization - Ashley Ladd Guest Post

Holy Batman!
Am I seriously suggesting that the 1960’s era TV Adam West version of ‘Batman’ that I watched as a kid can teach us about characterization?
Yes—good and bad.
When I finished making breakfast this morning and served my hubby in bed, he was watching the old sitcom so I joined him. After all, I absolutely loved this show—when I was six. It was my favorite thing on TV until I discovered Star Trek and fell in love with Spock.
Everything about the show seems so silly now that I was cringing—a lot. Yet, it was a real blast from the past.
This particular episode featured The Riddler played by Frank Gorshin, a very giggly, annoying villain who overplayed his part like all the other characters in the show. And of course this version of Batman was his usual stoic, heroic, super stiff self, not like the later charming Michael Keaton version.
My first reaction to the characterization was that it was way overdone, sickeningly so. Maybe it needed to be for six year old audiences but it’s irritating to my adult self.
So what do I think an over-acted, overly dramatic cast of characters can teach us about characterization? Although overdone (which teaches us to dial the dramatization down several notches and smooth off the rough edges) each character is unique.
Batman is always heroic, selfless, and stoic. He loves his expensive toys and always has some new gadget (or two).
Robin is eagerness personification—Holy cheesecake! this and that all the time. Whereas Batman speaks quietly, Robin usually raises his voice.
The Riddler giggles all the time and of course he leaves riddles as clues. He’s a prankster. And if we dared forget who he is, he wears a big question mark on his quest.
The Joker wears his evil, spooky grin. He’s a clown that makes us shiver, shudder, and quake in my boots. He’s pure evil itself.King Tut is a psychopath who thinks he’s the reincarnation of the Egyptian monarch. He dresses like an Egyptian king and devises Egyptian-like crimes and punishments to fit with his persona.I could go on but it’s clear that each player is a unique character. Still, in this early version of Batman, they are cardboard. We only got to view the black and white sides of their lives. Batman and Robin are pure good. The Riddler, The Joker, and King Tut are pure bad.

They’re a good starton characterization. They’re just one-dimensional. To make them truly interesting and sympathetic, they need more traits. They need to be rounded out. The 1960’s version of Batman might grasp a little kid’s attention but there’s a reason we don’t enjoy it as adults except perhaps for a few minutes traipse down memory lane—we want multi-dimensional, complex characters that make us think and emote. At least I do.
Keep Reading for an excerpt of Ashley's new release, Spooky Sojourn. (I luuurve this cover!)

Harry DeVeaux, paranormal investigator comes highly recommended to do the job and against Deanna’s better judgment, she hires him.
Although Deanna thinks Harry’s crazy for believing in ghosts and Harry thinks Deanna has a closed mind to the possibilities of ghosts and they highly annoy each other, sparks fly. Deanna can’t help but fantasize about Harry and inspired by a romance convention visiting her hotel, writes her fantasies in a private blog that Harry finds, hacks, and reads. Ooh la la!
Excerpt:
Drawing in a long, shuddering breath, he looked heavenwards and crossed his fingers behind his back hoping she wouldn’t throw something at him, hoping she’d be okay with his admission. “I found your blog and read it.”
Paling, the blood fled from her flesh and her eyes looked like sooty coals against her face. Her gaze clashed with his and held. “How did you find it? I used a pseudonym and I put it on privacy settings.”
He screwed up his lips, and scrubbed his hand over his face, preparing to tell more painful truths. “I’m a bit of a hacker and I like to research the people I’m working with.” Not sure she’d be receptive to his theory, he left out the part that he thought the ghosts led him to her site. He thought they were closet romantics. He wouldn’t be surprised if they’d locked them into the room now to force them into some alone time together.
When a tsunami of emotions flitted across her face he tried to read them. Fury. Embarrassment. Lust?
“You investigated me? You read my private musings?”
“You wrote about me? In some very intimate ways. At least I presume it was me since you used my name.” He fixed her with a piercing gaze. “Did you?”
A pregnant pause rent the air as she veiled her eyes from his view. Finally, she smoothed her skirt against her legs and admitted, “Yes. I have very mixed feelings about you. You make me crazy the way we argue, the way you believe in ghosts, and yet I find myself thinking about you, fantasizing about you.”Taking heart in the last part even if he wasn’t sure he liked the first, he said with a lopsided grin, “You fantasize about me much?”
As if she suddenly got bold, she sidled up to him with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes and ran the tip of her finger down his chest. “Aren’t my blogs proof? The question is, do you fantasize about me?”
