Sturgis, Baby!
Welcome to the Freak Circle Press’s celebration of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally!
Since 1938, Sturgis, South Dakota has been host to what became and has long been the largest, most famous bike rally in the U.S. It was started by Indian Motorcycle enthusiasts as a race and stunt rally, but it has evolved into a global phenomenon, with riders attending from all over the world to party, play, fight, ride, compete, and just generally commune with their tribe.
The Buffalo Chip Campground has become the epicenter of the rally, with live music, bare-knuckle fights, and other wild competitions and events. The Full Throttle Saloon, which touts itself as the Worlds Largest Biker Bar, is a vast, largely open-air saloon that grows into something like a theme park during Bike Week, with multiple bars, live music, and lots more. The Rat’s Hole Custom Bike Show is a globally famous and esteemed juried show that draws top designers from the world over.
The party during Bike Week spreads from South Dakota into Montana, but Sturgis is its heart. The tiny town, home to about 7,000 souls the rest of the year, swells to welcome hundreds of thousands of guests on two wheels.
The ladies of the FCP couldn’t be there in person, but we’ve sent our bikers there in fiction, in our collaboration POSTCARDS FROM STURGIS. And this week, we’re celebrating at a distance, showcasing our bikers and having our own little mini-events. We hope you enjoy the ride!
