EM Prazeman came to the United States as a refugee. Her family settled in the Pacific NW after moving frequently across the US, so EM got a lot of practice being the new kid at school. Super shy? Check. Reclusive? You bet.

In third grade, her father suggested she learn an instrument. She picked violin, because harps are expensive (she was frugal-minded, even as a kid) and the piano looked hard. Well, turns out the violin is super-hard, and kids think you're weird (or in her case, it only made her weirder). But, bonus, she learned to love all kinds of music, and her involvement in orchestra and theater led to a love of history. Those things eventually connected her to some incredible people. EM was no longer alone!

For love of history she wan

Great question and yes, I write to specific music. I used to develop playlists specifically for a book I was working on, but that changed with I think it was the third book in The Lord Jester's Legacy. I used to pick music that would reflect events in the books, and that was rather fun, but over time I found it more ... I don't know, story-invoking? If I focused on the characters and their attitudes rather than creating a soundtrack as if the books were movies. I mean, both methods of music selection could work as a soundtrack, but when the music is plot-focused, the songs need to be in a particular order. With a character-focused playlist, it doesn't matter what order the songs are in. It was very freeing, actually, to select music this way.
I still have some plot-oriented music in my list. For A Dark Radiance, Disturbed's take on A Sound of Silence played an important part for getting me in the right headspace for the climax.
Some favorites of mine:
Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd for Lark and Cockatrice's relationship
Songbird by Fleetwood Mac: Verai's love for Lark
Paradise by Coldplay: Feather
Applause by Lady Gaga: Gutter
Shape of My Heart by Sting: Bell
Madness by Muse: Rohn
Stargazing by Delerium: Winsome
Frozen by Madonna: Lark and Rohn

I have a couple of them that I'm willing to mention here.

The first one relates to my father, his activities as a young man in Czechoslovakia just before the Russian invasion, and our family's escape. I never asked my father about the details, and he never said anything, but the things I do know about could fuel a Cold War era suspense novel.

The second would relate to the cremains we found in our home. Who left them there, and why?(less)

The Kilhellion

The cover for the first book in my new sword and sorcery series, True Dawn The cover for the first book in my new sword and sorcery series, True Dawn

When I release a new book, there are so many feelings. Excitement. Hope. A kind of silent whimper whenever I wonder if anyone will like it. Relief, because a lot of hard work has finally come to fruition. Doubts about some choices I made. Eagerness to find out which characters are reader favorites, and what they think

DNF. My remarks are restricted to the first 19% of the book.
This was recommended to me by someone I respect very much. I can kind-of see the appeal. The extraterrestrials are very interesting and well-designed. The cultures on Earth and extra-Earth

Pacat strikes again!

I was introduced to Pacat's work through the Captive Prince series, books I've reread many times. I'm so glad that I decided to try a new series. This first book is full of promise of a new favorite series. If you like fantasy wit

“She sailed slowly along the east coasts, but here she surfed like a swift trader, icicles blown in strange angles and spirals in her rigging. The unearthly icicles often shattered, only to reform once more, and ice sometimes formed on the sails too, to break off in dangerous, sharp shards whenever the sails luffed.”
E.M. Prazeman, Confidante

“Someone was listening outside his door. Mark closed his eyes and in his mind the monstrous waves soared high above their sails. He sang to soothe the water, but mostly he sang for the sailor who listened, and Laura, and Gale, and the ship. He could think of no greater honor than to sing in this place, where nothing lasted and everything mattered.”
E.M. Prazeman, Confidante

“The heavy-hulled ship with its steel bow and iron-clad sides groaned, squeaked and crackled like a huge old wheelbarrow breaking under a load of big rocks.”
E.M. Prazeman, Confidante
