I am a lifelong inhabitant of Spokane, where I've spent my time reading and daydreaming about dragons, monsters, knights, dragons, alternate universes, dystopias, even the occasional dragon. The first thing I can remember wanting to be was an author, and here I am, (technically) doing just that. I love to read anything I can get my hands on and have worked on more stories than I care to think about (I'll finish them all someday, I swear). I've got a wife and a vast horde of animals that have infested my home, including one little monster that helps me name my characters when I'm stuck. ...more

I do have a new book coming out soon. I know I've taken too long in getting it out, but I'm finishing up the last draft now. I'm hoping to have it out by the end of July at the very latest.

This one will be another standalone novel about two friends who really explore the phrase, "Why not?" It's a story that I think will appeal to anyone who likes to dream about the ways they could solve their problems without worrying about such silly considerations as laws or rules. It's a story inspired by vigilante daydreams.

I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have, and that my writing style has only gotten better since I wrote my first book (I really don't think it's gotten worse).(less)

There's a big, beautiful park close by, and I've found that walking around the gardens alone usually gets me distracted enough to let those creative juices flow again. If that doesn't work, I'll pull out a notebook and just start writing anything about the story that I know. Where it's going, what's going to happen to a certain character. When I can't tell where to put my foot next, I just need to look up and remind myself where I'm going. Taking in the big picture makes that next step seem just trivial enough to take away any pressure, and I can keep going.(less)

New Book - Going Steampunk

I think I really need to stop mentioning what I'm working on until it's done.

The more I write, the more aware of my work I become, and the quicker I can smell the garbage when it's coming out. It's happened with a few different works already, so I should know better by now. Maybe I do - I'm going to talk about this project, but only because it is complete, at least as complete as a third d

Mark Twain
“Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.”
Mark Twain

Mark Twain
“You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.”
Mark Twain, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court

Douglas Adams
“I don't accept the currently fashionable assertion that any view is automatically as worthy of respect as any equal and opposite view. My view is that the moon is made of rock. If someone says to me 'Well, you haven't been there, have you? You haven't seen it for yourself, so my view that it is made of Norwegian Beaver Cheese is equally valid' - then I can't even be bothered to argue. There is such a thing as the burden of proof, and in the case of god, as in the case of the composition of the moon, this has shifted radically. God used to be the best explanation we'd got, and we've now got vastly better ones. God is no longer an explanation of anything, but has instead become something that would itself need an insurmountable amount of explaining. So I don't think that being convinced that there is no god is as irrational or arrogant a point of view as belief that there is. I don't think the matter calls for even-handedness at all.”
Douglas Adams

Alexandre Dumas
“All human wisdom is contained in these two words - Wait and Hope”
Alexandre Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo
