Writer's Guild of America Strike Averted

"After a day of twists and turns, Hollywood has dodged a bullet. A threatened writers strike was averted early this morning when the WGA and management’s AMPTP reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year film and TV contract after the old contract had expired at midnight PT...."

Restoring Historical Theatres in America

Across America, historical #theatres are being restored as part of an effort to revitalize communities. Here is a piece focusing on the theatres of Western Pennsylvania that are near and dear to my heart.

Tartan Noir

As I was taking a break from ‪#‎writing‬ the other night, I stumbled across a genre of crime fiction that I had no idea existed: Tartan Noir.

I am going to lean on my Scottish and UK friends and readers to chime in and steer me toward the best in the genre. But I'm really looking forward to learning and reading more Tartan Noir.

Found a shelf here on Goodreads with 204 of the Most Popular Tartan Noir Books: http://bit.ly/1QcDVYv

Test Pilots

Got into a little bit of a discussion about this list yesterday on ‪#‎Twitter‬ (@NeilRussellAuth). Consensus is that this is a good starting place and primer, but that many, many more not on the list have contributed greatly to aviation.

Happy New Year.

An Oral History of Laurel Canyon, the Sixties and Seventies Music Mecca

As readers of my Rail Black novels know, I interweave events from the past with connected ones from the present. I like to focus on the history of Los Angeles and Southern California in particular, such as in Beverly Hills is Burning.

That's why I thoroughly enjoyed this feature in Vanity Fair. I even learned a few things I did not know about Laurel Canyon.

99 cents - BEVERLY HILLS IS BURNING

My third Rail Black novel, Beverly Hills is Burning is available NOW through 2/16 for only 99 cents on ‪#‎Kindle‬.

Rail might be described as a hybrid of John D. MacDonald’s Travis McGee and Ian Fleming’s James Bond . . . but about a half-foot taller than either. New York Times best-selling spy author Gayle Lynds described Beverly Hills is Burning as “utterly gripping,” a “fascinating mystery” with “exciting suspense that doesn’t release the panting reader until the last page.”

All of the Rail Black Novels are stand-alones, so it is not necessary to have read the first two to enjoy Beverly Hills is Burning. - NR
