Leslie Tall Manning is an award-winning novelist who loves writing about grown-ups (GAGA, MAGGIE’S DREAM, KNOCK ON WOOD, and FERAL MARIL & HER LITTLE BROTHER CAROL) and young adults (UPSIDE DOWN IN A LAURA INGALLS TOWN, I AM ELEPHANT, I AM BUTTERFLY, and RULES OF FALLING). She especially loves digging into universal ideas such as friendship, bravery, and self-forgiveness. When she's not spending quality time with the characters in her head, she speaks at libraries, schools, and book clubs. She is proudly represented by Uwe Stender at the TriadaUS Literary Agency, and is currently working on an historical fiction bildungsroman.

A bit about Leslie the Reader: She's been reading since the age of five and creating stories since she was six. As a

I pretend my characters have been holding their breath all night, and without me to help them breathe, they will die. So get your rear into the chair! Just remember to take breaks, sleep well, eat well, and stretch. Writing is only part of your life. Find the balance!(less)

The only time I get stuck for a minute or two is when I have too many fun choices, but then I just pick one and move forward, letting my characters rule! Trigger Warnings VS Spoilers

Along with a love for reading novels, I love reading book reviews. I must read ten to twenty reviews a week, and not just books I’m interested in, but all kinds of books. I do this because I like to see how today’s reviewers have adapted over time, how they navigate within an ever-changing publishing world, and their different styles of review writing.

In pre-social media days, the only reviewers o Read more of this blog post »

“There are moments in time that can never be understood, at least not fully. Times we only read about in history books, or see in movies, barely a re-creation of the truth. But it takes more than reading about it or putting on the costumes to understand what history really means.”
Leslie Tall Manning, Upside Down in a Laura Ingalls Town

“I thought of my mom, sitting on the sofa on a rainy Saturday afternoon, watching cable reruns of her favorite Little House on the Prairie series. Sometimes she'd cry. She would hold onto a tissue, and she would sob as she sat there on the couch. I asked her once why she was crying. She told me it was because the show made her happy.”
Leslie Tall Manning, Upside Down in a Laura Ingalls Town

“That girl in the mirror wasn't me. that girl in the mirror had devoured me. Swallowed me whole.”

“Reader's Bill of Rights

1. The right to not read

2. The right to skip pages

3. The right to not finish

4. The right to reread

5. The right to read anything

6. The right to escapism

7. The right to read anywhere

8. The right to browse

9. The right to read out loud

10. The right to not defend your tastes”
Daniel Pennac

“You won’t understand what I mean now, but someday you will: the only trick of friendship, I think, is to find people who are better than you are—not smarter, not cooler, but kinder, and more generous, and more forgiving—and then to appreciate them for what they can teach you, and to try to listen to them when they tell you something about yourself, no matter how bad—or good—it might be, and to trust them, which is the hardest thing of all. But the best, as well.”
Hanya Yanagihara, A Little Life

“Not only will we have to repent for the sins of bad people; but we also will have to repent for the appalling silence of good people.”
