I have four pieces of advice for traditional and indie published writers:

1) Make sure your book is well-edited and proof-read multiple times.
2) Make sure your book cover is eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing compared to other books of the same genre.
3) Every day, imagine the success you want for yourself and your book. Imagine how the finished book looks and feels beneath your fingers, imagine the fresh ink smell. Allow yourself to feel that excitement!
4) Never listen to anyone who doesn't support your vision for your yourself or your book. (less)

Walking always results in new scene ideas, and watching movies (and listening to the banter between characters) helps me fine tune the dialogue in my scenes, and keep it crisp.

If I'm struggling with a particular scene, I ditch it and start a fresh scene-- one that I'm excited to write. Usually, once I've established a rhythm again, it's easier to go back to the tough scene, find the flaws, and patch it up. So yes, I write my novels out of order!

And if all else fails, chocolate or a glass of cabernet usually do the trick!(less)
