My dreams are all wrapped up in a poem that opens the last chapter of my book, When Dreams are Calling:

I dream of flowers yellow and blue
Surrounding a red house and a canoe,
With parrots that squawk be it sunny or rain,
With books in my hands picking my brain,

Making a soup from my own veggie patch,
Writing a tale about match and mismatch,
Travel the seas and the world in between,
Touching Antarctica and a croc’s skin.

Growing older with him by my side,
Laughing at my first Wonderland ride,
Listening to his jokes always funny and true,
While we keep philosophizing on what’s old and what’s new.

Oman: touching the heaven’s doors

WE, IN THE WESTERN WORLD, have plenty of doors.

Front doors for who really matters to us: us.

Screen doors for annoyance.

Back doors for convenience.

Doggie doors for independent friends.

Garage doors for “precious metal and plastic.”

Sliding doors for muscle training.

Revolving doors for a pinch of confusion and swift punishment.

French doors for elegance and fancy.

Dutch doors for—I don’t know, herit

OMSARUZ by Carol Vorvain
“I went to Saudi Arabia to break free for a while. Strange idea. If freedom was what I was truly after, perhaps I could have bought a Cuba Libre instead.”

“But what attracted me to weeds was not their beauty, but their resilience. I mean, despite being so widely despised, so unloved, killed with every chance we get, they are so pervasive, so seemingly invincible.”

“Listen and learn from others' criticism. It will tell you as much about you as it will about them.”
Carol Vorvain, When Dreams are Calling

“What’s success? Having lots of money? No, this is part of the practicalities of life. It is not success. Success is having two daughters who grow into fine ladies, two boys who grow into fine gentlemen. Success is waking up next to the loved one dumbstruck at your luck of meeting them.”
