Writer's Block
I never have the experience of writer's block. It's some kind of myth that people believe in, but it doesn't really exist in my world. I know that many young writers struggle with it and I too had that same problem at one point. Boy, it was almost impossible for me to just sit down and write something. The anxiety and fear that ran through me back then was almost unbearable. I could do anything EXCEPT sitting down and writing. It was too personal; too soulful; too powerful.
I feared revealing myself to the world, and this is what many writers truly struggle with deep down. We're not normal men and women; we're trying to bring a part of ourselves into the world and it's not easy. We fight ourselves on a daily basis until procrastination rears its ugly head. Our job is more important, our husband/wife takes priority, and so on. But what you write and show to the world is your legacy, and it will endure even after you're dead, especially if you become a famous writer. Isn't that worth fighting for? To leave your mark in the world, to really go forward and penetrate the minds and souls of people with your writing—doesn't that light a fire under your ass?
Why do I say that writer's block is a myth? Because it's not the core problem. You don't stop writing because you have this ethereal, unknown disease known as 'writer's block'. And deep down you know it's true.
You're afraid. Afraid to show the world just how incredible you are.
Often, the people who suffer from writer's block are the ones who fear the act of writing. Being recognized on a worldwide scale, having their writing criticized by others, fear of success, fear of failure. There could be as many reasons as there are stars in the sky—yet you must transcend them if you want to really shine and enchant your readers with your prose.
So stop hiding your sheets. Go out into the warm sunlight of the empty page and let your soul be laid bare. You won't regret it.
