I have taught the Bible since 1996 both as a collegiate missionary with DiscipleMakers and as an elder in both Presbyterian and Independent churches. I've trained dozens of people to study the Bible. Many of them now train others who, in turn, have begun training a third generation.

With each new year, I read nothing but the Bible until I finish it. I do this, not because it makes God any happier with me, but because it makes me happier with him in Christ.

The Savior, the Sluggard, and the Sower of Discord

In recent years, I’ve learned that much of parenting involves helping the children learn not to do dumb stuff that hurts themselves and others. One child destroys every tower and confiscates every treasure, then wonders why no other children want to play together. Another child leaps from couch to coffee table and back again, wondering how far the gap can widen before something bad happens. Yet a

I know, I know. I'm in the less that 1% of the population that didn't enjoy this book. That's okay, I'm used to it. Being left-handed, an INFJ, and a follower of Jesus Christ, I'm used to being abnormal.

Levi's prose is magnificent. I just couldn't ge

A helpful basic understanding of discipleship, but could have used more scriptural underpinnings to drive its points home.

2026 update: Still feel the same. He proof texts a bit, but so many of the ideas are not supported by any scripture at all. Not

“How long Archibald slept he could not have said. He woke some hours later with a vague feeling that a thunderstorm of unusual violence had broken out in his immediate neighborhood. But this, he realized as the mists of slumber cleared away, was an error. The noise which had disturbed him was not thunder but the sound of someone snoring. Snoring like the dickens. The walls seemed to be vibrating like the deck of an ocean liner....

His spirit was not so completely broken as to make him lie supinely down beneath that snoring. The sound filled him, as snoring fills every right-thinking man, with a seething resentment and a passionate yearning for justice, and he climbed out of bed with the intention of taking the proper steps through the recognized channels. It is the custom nowadays to disparage the educational methods of the English public school and to maintain that they are not practical and of a kind to fit the growing boy for the problems of afterlife. But you do learn one thing at a public school, and that is how to act when somebody starts snoring.

You jolly well grab a cake of soap and pop in and stuff it down the blighter's throat. And this is what Archibald proposed - God willing - to do.”
