With each new year, I read nothing but the Bible until I finish it. I do this, not because it makes God any happier with me, but because it makes me happier with him in Christ.

Change, Part 1: Wisdom Comes in the Ears

Wisdom comes in the ears, through the heart, and out the fingertips (Prov. 4:20-27). This week, we explore the first step in the chain.

My son, be attentive to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings (Prov. 4:20).

A fine story. Quick read. Engaging.

2026 update: Enjoyed the audiobook.
Psalms (Bible #19), ESV by Anonymous
"EDIT BELOW Surprisingly, I wasn’t crazy about Psalms, despite its lyrical nature. I found it a bit generic and slow. This took me forever to finish. However, several chapters really got to me, making the long read worth it.

Edit: dang, I was stupid. T" Read more of this review »
2,000 Years of Christ's Power, Part One by Nick R. Needham
"This is my second time reading this book! It is a book I plan to continue to go back to. If you think Church History is “boring” you need to buy this book. It is stimulating, inspiring and well researched. I am excited to read the rest of the volumes" Read more of this review »
Peter Krol and 2 other people liked Micah Natal's review of Knowing God:
Knowing God by J.I. Packer
"Knowing God succeeds where many books fail. It teaches deep doctrine without killing devotion. Packer understands that theology is not speculation about God, but “knowledge of God that leads to worship, humility, and obedience.” That alone earns the " Read more of this review »

I have very much enjoyed the NET Bible since the first edition was published. Would that more publishers provided such an open copyright for ministry use.

In 2026, I read the NET 2ed for my annual Bible speed-read. It was very readable in large chunks

A good intro to the topic. Does well to show how sound doctrine connects to nearly everything else a church does. One thing I wish he had done was to better define the bounds of "sound doctrine." In other words, which doctrines must be believed to ho ...more

“How long Archibald slept he could not have said. He woke some hours later with a vague feeling that a thunderstorm of unusual violence had broken out in his immediate neighborhood. But this, he realized as the mists of slumber cleared away, was an error. The noise which had disturbed him was not thunder but the sound of someone snoring. Snoring like the dickens. The walls seemed to be vibrating like the deck of an ocean liner....

His spirit was not so completely broken as to make him lie supinely down beneath that snoring. The sound filled him, as snoring fills every right-thinking man, with a seething resentment and a passionate yearning for justice, and he climbed out of bed with the intention of taking the proper steps through the recognized channels. It is the custom nowadays to disparage the educational methods of the English public school and to maintain that they are not practical and of a kind to fit the growing boy for the problems of afterlife. But you do learn one thing at a public school, and that is how to act when somebody starts snoring.

You jolly well grab a cake of soap and pop in and stuff it down the blighter's throat. And this is what Archibald proposed - God willing - to do.”
