Stephanie Wood writes contemporary fiction in the form of novels, novellas and short stories and her books explore a wide range of life’s challenges, dreams and responsibilities. The stories are all character based, so she has fun expressing each unique personality and the reasons behind their actions in a setting which always has a strong sense of community.

She published the AEGEAN SUN series of books as a fly-on-the-wall vision of life in a Greek resort during the summer season, using her extensive experience as a holiday rep to bring some unusual incidents to life on the page. The series began as an exploration of the various ways in which tourists make the most of their holidays and how they interact with the locals while they are visit

Aegean Sun: Room 101 is actually a conglomeration of several different factors.
Many years ago I worked as a holiday representative in Greece and came into contact with various types of people, who expected wildly different things from their holidays. I was fascinated by the contrasting ways they would react to the same situation and similarly surprised when I was told, week after week, about the identical incidents which had befallen each of them.
After returning to England I was happy to spend my free time on Greek holidays and was amused to find myself in similar situations to those I had previously encountered - and to watch other holidaymakers experience the same thing.
On one such holiday I suffered from a back injury and spent a short while confined to bed with time to think about all the other people who had shared that room and what fate had in store for them. My earlier memories came to the fore and the idea for my first novel was born.
Setting the scene within that one room gave me the opportunity to introduce a variety of personalities, but it was also a personal reminder for me as I had been incapacitated in Room 101 of the Aegean Sun Hotel, in Kos.

It will be released in March 2015.
At the end of this month (July 2014) I will be releasing Aegean Sun: The After Effects, which follows some of the characters from the first book to discover what happens to them after their holiday. It also explores the destiny of the workers from the hotel and reveals the distinction between summer and winter work.
Also at the end of September 2014 there will be a chance to read Aegean Sun: The Diaries. This is the representative’s account of his summer and some of the incidents he experienced.

Life is the greatest book you'll ever write!

I’m not a movie star. I’m not a member of royalty. I’m not a celebrity. I’m not even a best-selling author (yet!). That doesn’t mean I don’t have a life – and quite an interesting life at that. It wouldn’t be the choice of many people and to be honest it wasn’t my choice either, but it’s the life I’ve been given and it has recently changed the way I see the world in a multitude of ways.

This book is great at describing a personal experience of neurodivergence. Although it didn't tell me anything new, I recognised most of the descriptions and it was comforting to have the assurance that others feel the same. I could recommend this fo ...more

“If repping could be compared to a car: the office reps are the engine and the hotel reps are the drivers. If the engine doesn’t work, the driver can’t move forward; but if the driver refuses to drive, there’s no point in having a perfectly functioning engine.
So, next time you take a holiday, enjoy the drive the rep takes you on - but remember to appreciate the office staff, who work to ensure that you don’t come to an unexpected grinding halt.”
Stephanie Wood, Aegean Sun: The Office

“Man, you should write a book.’
‘I know. You couldn’t make this stuff up, could you?”
Stephanie Wood, Room 101

“She could picture herself now in the cool water with the sun on her face, totally alone and at peace with the stunning Greek scenery all around her. She hadn’t even been here for a full day yet, but she was desperate to feel that she was away from her usual surroundings and all her responsibilities and become a different - liberated - woman, even if it was only for a week.”
Stephanie Wood, Room 101
