I was born and raised in south Texas along the Mexican border where Spanish was my first language. I grew up in a multi-generational household with my grandmother, parents, and three younger sisters. Growing up in such a rich cultural environment, I was fed a steady diet of folktales, urban legends, and other stories that nurtured my love for writing and reading. Though I aspired to be a writer as a child, my left brain took over as I got closer to high school graduation, and I decided to pursue a practical career in health care instead.
