Al Dante Inferno: A Magic Duels Red/White Optimized Starting Deck

As I have just started playing Magic Duels, I figured I would share the first deck I built for others who might be interested in giving the game a try. The game is completely free to play, and all of the cards can be unlocked without paying a dime–that is, if you have the time.

This holiday season, I received a phone upgrade and Magic Duels was the first app I downloaded (the game did not run on my old phone). I played the original card game when it first came out. And I can tell you tha...

Censored by Mensa: Why I’m Not an Atheist

The following essay was originally sent to American Mensa in October. It began as a response to an article in the Bulletin titled“We Atheists Come in Four Flavors,” which is an ironic title since atheism is defined as a lack of belief in god or gods: there can’t be any flavors of a lack of a belief. The author then goes on to accuse other members of Mensa who happen to be theists“illogical” and“unenlightened.” Well, sir, I would like to“enlighten” you, and if Mensa won’t give me a platform fo...

The Story Behind the Invention of the c^2 Keyboard

I am making this post to inspire other inventors and share my story. I hold a patent on the first keyboard that is specifically designed for use with computers and electronic devices. There have been other keyboard designs invented throughout history, but they have all been designed for use with typewriters.

One example of a keyboard that is better than the one we use now (The“QWERTY” layout) is the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard. It was invented in the 1920s and was never widely used. Although it...

How many comma splices can you find in Knausgaard? And two Proust passages.

A comma splice is generally considered a red flag for bad writing. However, rules are meant to be broken, and creative writing doesn’t necessarily have to conform to any set of formal rules. When two independent clauses need to be joined in a sentence, the following options are the most standard: a comma followed by a coordinating conjunction (and, but, because, etc), a semicolon, a semicolon followed by a conjunctive adverb (however, therefore, nevertheless, etc) and a comma, a colon, an em-...

New Direction for the blog

The new direction I will be taking will be: book reviews, the occasional poem, and short stories. I’ve concluded that the majority of my opinions are extremely offensive, so I don’t see how constructive it would be to share them. The world is offensive enough without my opinions–not to mention, my religion, which I will no longer be blogging about. Neither will I be blogging about my life, although, I may decide to blog about my possible alien abduction.

My religion is so offensive, that...

Short Story: “The Philanthropist”

This is experimental creative writing that was rejected from The New Yorker magazine:

The world seems at my command; all lecherous legionsdamned: fly lord, sly lord, lord of lies; Beezlebub, hot cold cauldron bubbling;toil and trouble. This mystifying mourning of soul scream. It’s morning. I takethe ferry across Victoria Harbour from TST to Central. Fairies, rain stain shirt pains. Although, I can’t complain—time trained; atemporal stone toss parabola—crowded ferry.

Rain-changer.

Same stranger...

Dostoyevsky’s Underground Man Moves Above Ground into a Bungalow

Rejected from McSweeneys Internet Tendancy:

I’m no longer a sick man … nor am I a mean man – that was when I was forty. I am also happy to report that I still possess my beautiful beaver overcoat; it was not stolen, and I have not been murdered. The Gogol logo on the overcoat ensures that it will be replaced free of charge should it ever be lost, stolen, or damaged. I was unable to find any other brand of beaver coats that comes with this type of insurance.

With age occasionally comes wisd...

From SciArts producer Annie Minoff, who was in Linz last week for Ars Electronica:

Korean computer scientist Shin Seung Back and artist Kim Yong Hun collaborate on art projects that explore how computers “read” faces.

For “Cat or Human,” they collected human faces recognized as cat faces by a human face-detection algorithm, and cat faces recognized as human faces by a cat face-detection algorithm.

Sexual perversion, Homosexuality, and the DSM

No specific gene has currently been found that leads to homosexual activity; it is quite possible that this erratic behavior could be polygenic—this means that there is more than one gene involved, however, the propagation of deviant sexual behavior is contrary to secular science; Darwin’s theory of evolution is predicated on natural selection and the survival of the fittest; sexual deviants, such as homosexuals, offer no survival advantages to the species—males who insert t...

Book Review: Washed Up

image

Update: This book was originally written when the author was 19; this makes “Washed Up: The Succubus Sea” even more incredible. Considering how young the author was at the time, it is quite an accomplishment - certainly worthy of a read. First published in the United Kingdom as “The Succubus Sea,” this is the work of an extremely talented, budding author who was about to bloom. Take note, Howard Bloom. It was published circa 2001.

If you do not know, I am Quinn’s biggest...
