It was series like Dear America, Little House on the Prairie, and American Girl books that instilled in Julie at a young age her lifelong love and fascination with history. And a childhood spent growing up in Philadelphia, colonial America's foremost metropolis, further cemented this love affair.

An ardent bibliophile (she can remember as a teenager carrying around a copy of young adult historical fiction author Ann Rinaldi's gripping Civil War tale, The Last Silk Dress, and reading it between rides at Disney World because she didn't want to wait until she got back to her hotel room to finish it) it came as a surprise to no one when she became a librarian. Julie currently works as an academic librarian in the Pittsburgh area.

Hi Gary,

I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed The Dead Are Resting! I truly loved writing it as WWII and the Holocaust are two periods of history I have always been incredibly interested in.

Although it's not WWII fiction, I would still recommend my first novel, The Tears of Yesteryear. It's also historical fiction but takes place in a Western Pennsylvania mill town in the early 1900s. It's a coming of age story about an immigrant woman and her family and the unimaginable hardships immigrants of all nationalities faced at that time. If you're not familiar with immigrant history during America's heyday (end of the 19th/early 20th century) it will offer you a great insightful look in that period of American history.

As for WWII historical fiction, I would recommend "The Things We Cannot Say" by Kelly Rimmer. It's also a dual timeline novel, taking place between modern day and WWII era Poland. It's a terrific and highly engrossing read.

Happy reading!(less)

Daughter of Egypt by Marie Benedict
"Thank you so much to St Martin Press & Netgalley for the ARC!

I went into Daughter of Egypt fully expecting a five star read. Ancient Egypt is very much my thing, and the premise alone had me hooked. Set against the frenzy of 1920s London and Egypt fo" Read more of this review »

“The last remaining wonder of the world still standing tall against the backdrop of the modern one. She had borne witness to the rise and fall of countless empires and conquering armies, and yet here she was, still enchanting all those who stood before her.”
