Jonathan Den Hartog is professor of history at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He loves American history of all periods, but he has a special interest in the era of the American Revolution and the Early Republic. He is fascinated by the interplay of religion and politics in the Early Republic. This interest motivated him to write Patriotism and Piety: Federalist Politics and Religious Struggle in the New American Nation.

New Semester, New Post

The Fall Semester is now 1 week old. Classes have all met several times.

With the new semester comes a new blog post, connected to one of my classes this semester.

In this post, I talk about a new book about Cotton Mather that I’ll be using to help students understand colonial New England Puritanism.

Read it here!
