Growing up in an Italian family, I can relate to there uniquely Italian points of view. The series takes place in Venice, where he is the chief police inspector and she teaches literature at the university.

They have a wonderful family, a loving relationship and there dinner table conversations are intelligent and at times very comical.

I guess the reason I chose them is because they are very real to me and Ms. Leon does a great job of incorporating there relationship into each mystery story giving the reader and inside glimpse of their personal lives.

If you haven't read a Donna Leon book, then do yourself a favor and read one. I promise it will be different from anything you've read before.

The series is on it's 25th book, so I would suggest that you start with book one which is Death at La Fenice. Enjoy and thanks for the question.(less)
