The Road to Publication
Thank you for joining me on this first full episode of Beyond the Pages! In this episode, I talk about my childhood aspirations of becoming a cartoonist, which eventually led me to learn animation and visual effects, then screenwriting, then filmmaking, and finally, writing novels.

Unfettered III and The Stone Golem of Qual’Jom
I have a new short story coming out March 19, 2019, and it’s part of a pretty exciting anthology.
The Anthology
Unfettered III from Grim Oak Press is one of the most exciting fantasy literature anthologies I’ve seen in a long time. It features some of today’s best fantasy writers, including Brandon Sanderson, Terry Brooks, Delilah S. Dawson, Lev Grossman, Seanan McGuire, Cat Rambo, Tad Williams, and lots of others. (Full author list). It was a tremendous honor to have been asked to be a pa...

Introducing The Song Thief
I’ve spoken before about how The Bard’s Tale was one of my all-time favorite computer games. It certainly has the distinction of being the first CRPG (computer Role-Playing Game) I ever played. So when InXile Entertainment announced a Kickstarter campaign to reboot the franchise and create The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrow’s Deep, I leaped at the opportunity to be involved.
That involvement began with contributing to the Kickstarter campaign itself and evolved into me reaching out to Nathan Long, th...

Dragonmount Upgrade
Earlier this month I completed a major upgrade to Dragonmount.com, the big Wheel of Time website that I run. 2018 marks the website’s 20th anniversary, and so I wanted to have what I’ve been calling a “fresh coat of paint.” This process was complicated for a number of reasons.
The first step was to get funding. I was in between jobs at the time, so independently financing the upgrade wouldn’t be possible. So I started a GoFundMe campaign and was incredibly humbled by people’s interest in he...

RIP Ursula K Le Guin
Ursula K. Le Guin, one of my favorite writers, and an accomplished master of the written word, has passed away. She was 88 years old, and died at home.
She wrote an untold number of published stories in her lifetime, continuing to work, I believe, until her death. In 2002 she was given the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Grand Master Award.
I never met her, but like millions of other people, I felt a special connection to Le Guin’s work. On some occasions I’ve likened her in a...

Mystic Dragon cover reveal
It’s been a long wait, but I’m pleased to present you the cover for Mystic Dragon!
The artwork is by Larry Rostant, who I’m incredibly lucky to have working on my book covers. And I need to also give a shout-out to Tor’s art director, Irene Gallo, for leading the charge in making such a fine cover. At some point I’ll post some behind-the-scenes images featuring the models in the image, like I did for the original Mystic cover.
Mystic Dragon is currently scheduled for release...

JordanCon 2018
It’s a privilege to announce that I’ll be the Guest of Honor at next’s year’s 10th annual JordanCon, held in Atlanta, Georgia.
I’ve been involved with this convention from the very beginning, including being Toastmaster its first year, as well as a member of its board of directors. I admit to being a little surprised when I was to be the Guest of Honor, as I thought, surely, there’s somebody else more deserving? But it was explained to me that I had been on the list of potential GoH’s for...
