Spring Break with Heidi McLaughlin plus Giveaway!
I’m so excited to have the super awesome Heidi McLaughlin joining us today as we continue the Spring Break Party!! Excuse me while I fan girl for a moment! :-)
Heidi McLaughlin—
Im one of those who never fully experienced Spring Break for what its worth. Sadly, any trip or adventure I had didnt even come close to the stories Id hear. I used to imagine what my trip would be like sun, sand, all night clubs where age didnt matter and then I saw Girls Gone Wild and thought my parents will never let me have Spring Break like that so I never brought up the subject of wanting to go to places like South Beach, Aruba, Cancun or Cabo. Instead, I worked and waited for the tales from my friends of how the warm sand felt against their toes or how they met the most gorgeous man with the most mesmerizing blue eyes coupled with the most exotic names, known of which Id remember the next day.
Now that Im older and my daughter talks about going to Cancun, I encourage her. I want her to take every advantage that she can while shes young and carefree. I dont know if I want to hear the tales of what takes place, but I definitely want to know the name of the guy that sweeps her off her feet for a week and how the sand felt between her toes. I want her to let the sun soak into her skin and create memories with friends that last a lifetime.
And yes, Im happy that Girls Gone Wild has seem to run out of steam!
***
I fell in love with Forever My Girl by Heidi then devoured the entire series. Her most recent series The Archer Brothers continues to blow my socks off!
I’m giving away a copy of Here with Me and Choose Me to one lucky person!!!

Most Memorable Spring Break with Lana Grayson and Giveaway!!!
Let’s welcome the amazing Lana Grayson to the Spring Break party!!
Lana GraysonMost Memorable Spring Break
First…let me say…I am not what you could call a party animal.
I think Im more a shindig kitten or a small get-together pup.
I have no good spring break stories that dont include running home from college to do laundry andyou guessed itwrite. Back then it wasnt motorcycle club romances, it was fairies and elves. (Ah, youth.)
After graduating college, I followed my boyfriend-and-future-husband to his graduate schoolVirginia Tech. Our story begins on his spring break, when we decided to make the five and a half hour trip home to Pittsburgh for Easter.
With the cat.
Since all of other friends headed home for their own spring breaks, we didnt have anyone to look in on the kitty. Soafter a forty-five minute recreation of the scene in Jurassic Park were Muldoon loads the velociraptors into the park (Shooot Herrrrr!), I successfully jam the uncooperative cat into her carrier and got on the road. We made it to Pittsburgh, stayed a week, visited family, everything was nice.
Until we got back on the road to come home.
About one hundred and twenty miles into the trip, the car breaks down on the highway. Spectacularly. Flashing lights, loud band, shuddering. We limp to the shoulder and I begin to fret.
Its a Sunday night. We are, literally, in the middle of West Virginia. No mechanics are open, and Im not even sure what happens outside the highway in this part of the country. Trees, trees, and probably a few meth labs as far as the eye can see. (Thats not fair, WV is lovely. And isolated…and, in 2009, without complete cell coverage on the interstate.)
We are stranded far from home and even farther from Virginia, and I have the cat who SO does want to be in the carrier. This time shes not the velociraptornow shes that cute little dinosaur that hobbles up to the gate and then screams, puffs up, and spits all over you. No poison tar from our little cutie, just good, ol fashioned panther style screaming, fangs, and kitten spittle.
So, its going well.
We wait two hours for the tow. It takes us to Weston, WVa 200 year old town smack-dab in the middle of WV with one good claim to famethe abandoned Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. The asylum is positioned dead center in the towncomplete with bent and rusted iron fences, broken windows with billowing curtains, freaking gargoyles, and the remnants of every documentary film crew trying to catch ghosts in its halls.
(Youd think that would be the creepiest thing in Weston. It wasnt. We visited the location when I was in college for a photography project. While we took pictures from the outside, no less than five windowless vans circled us around town at eleven oclock at night. Us college girls clustered together, armed with a bag of white cheddar cheese popcorn, puffy paint, and very large sticks. A story for another time perhaps.)
Needless to say, I was familiar with Weston and its one mechanic who wouldnt be open for two days.
Another three hours pass, and my family comes to rescue us and the cat who is gnawing on the bars of the carrier like a rabid gerbilsharpening her teeth for her reckoning that would destroy the remainder of the car that survived the busted water pump. My family delivers us to Virginia after another four hours, and we end spring break near midnight with one angry cat, no car for my boyfriend, and the ominous realization that we have to go back to Weston.
Two days later, the car is fixed. So I drive my boyfriend to collect his carnow with $500 in repairs, the kind of change all graduate students have in the couch cushions. We roll up to the mechanics and two men in overalls greet us as they spit out their chew. My boyfriend tells them, Hi, Im the owner of the Saab.
One grizzled old mechanic with an eyepatch and a cough straight from the coal-mines eyed my boyfriend, andGods honest truthlooks him up and down.
I wouldnt say that round these parts too loud, boy, he says.
My boyfriend is speechless. I frantically point to my American born-and-manufactured Ford parked in the street. And thus, we are forgiven of our foreign car sin. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Ford is with me, blessed is the fruit of Detroit…
With far more dignity than I have when faced with impending banjos, my boyfriend pays the mechanic and we get back on our way.
We return to Virginia with just enough time for him to make the lab he is TA-ing, and I arm myself with kitty treats and long sleeves to appease the cat who, all night, embraced her freedom from the carrier by sitting on my nightstand.
Just staring.
Always staring.
Waiting for me to fall asleep.
Vengeance served with a hairball coughed up into my shoe.
And that, my friends, is the story of my worst spring break experience.
**And note, Im a little unfair to West Virginia, but its all in good fun. I went to college there and its really not so scary…you know, outside of Weston.**

Craziest Spring Break with Rachel Van Dyken plus Giveaway!
It’s Spring Break!!! In celebration of this wild and crazy time of year I’m hosting a Spring Break party on my blog!! To kick off this week’s adventure I have a special guest.one of my favorite authors, Rachel Van Dyken!! She’s here today to tell us about her Craziest Spring Break and give us some info about her upcoming release!!
Craziest Spring Break by Rachel Van Dyken
I never realized how lame I was until I started thinking about the craziest spring break I’ve ever had. After a good half hour of thinking..it occurred to me. I’m actually quite boring. I’ve done the typical, let’s go to Mexico during spring break and I’ve done the “I’m going to stay home and study.” But nothing out of the ordinary—or so I thought. And then, like a memory that I’ve surpassed, for very good reason, this little blurb of a Spring Break popped up on my radar.
No, I didn’t get drunk.
I didn’t light someone on fire.
BUT in my sad, pathetic little 6th grade mind. I fell in love.
It started on the basketball court, like most games do….We were vacationing on the Oregon coast, I was practicing my ridiculous skills (ridiculous being the keyword here) when some locals asked if they could join.
We played for five hours.
Every day.
Until the week was finished.
I fell in love with the tall one–it was immediate. He shared his candy bar, I gave him some Mountain Dew, and in my mind thought. This is it. This is the moment everyone talks about.
Maybe it was his height? Or the fact that his three point shot was way better than mine–I was always attracted to the athletes. But, alas, the time came when we had to leave.
I remember putting my hair in a ponytail, with a really awesome black scrunch, I pulled my socks up really high so I’d look like Cher form Clueless (mind you my socks weren’t actually knee highs but reebok basketball socks). I put on some Clinique lipstick and pink blush, then very nervously made my way back to the court.
Back where our love affair began.
I expected him to be just as sad. I imagined there would be tears, promises of forever, and I was ready for that, ready to tell him that he was it.
We played Horse.
He won.
My dad honked the horn on the minivan (also known as the totally rad green Ford Windstar) and the love of my life walked away with a wave.
I was heartbroken, shell shocked, defeated. And then, he walked back and slid a note into my hand.
Triumphant, I hugged him and jogged back to my van. Clearly it was a love note, with all his reasons for falling for me too, possibly an address, a wedding proposal? Endless possibilities.
I waited five minutes maybe ten, then read the note. It wasn’t of love or adoration. The tall boy said I was fun, and I was cute, he left me no address.
But he did explain, in very scratchy writing that he wasn’t a good guy–that I was lucky to have a family who took me on vacation, and that he’d probably never see me again.
Imagine my disappointment? When I returned to school the following week, we had to get up in front of the class and talk about what we did over spring break.
I talked about basketball and then, while facing all my peers, burst into tears over the boy who broke my heart.
IN FRONT OF EVERYONE.
I think…looking back….going to Mexico and waking up in the pool naked may have been a better way to go, considering none of my friends EVER let me forget it.

THE CONSEQUENCEOF LOVING COLTON
Its all fun and gamesuntil someones heart is broken.
Theyre not kids anymore, but Milo Caro is certain that Colton Mathews will only see her as his best friends little sister for the rest of their lives. After all, he made that clear the night before she left for college. But four years later, her brother is getting married and Colts the best manand guess who is the best mans last-minute date?
Milo vows to use the wedding to either claim the smoldering firefighters heart or douse this torch for good. When Maxher best friend from college, who may be carrying a torch of his owncrashes the party, they devise a plan to make Colt see what hes missing. But after Colt catches on, he decides to cook up his own revenge.
Now its personal. Colt and Milo are at war, and between Maxs questionable acting methods, an unfortunate trip to jail, and a maniacal fiance, what could possibly go right?

WEEKEND WINGS GIVEAWAY
WELCOME TO THE WEEKEND WINGS GIVEAWAY!!!
I’m so excited to introduce you to a fellow military spouse and author extraordinaire,
TA Foster and her super sexy story FLY!
Hi TA!!! Welcome!!!
I have to start off by drooling over this amazing cover.
Not everyones good at one-night stands.
Skye Stephens has the worst day of her professional career, and all she wants to do is shed her power suit and get lost in the sheets with the hot guy she met at the bar. The problem is, this uptight ad exec doesnt know how to do one-night stands. She has strict rules about dating and when to let a man in her bedroom.
Fighter pilot Ben Bolt Hardcastle is used to lovin and leavin. But, after he meets Skye, one night doesnt seem to be enough.
When these two crash-land into each other, a connection strong enough to make the loner pilot and the sexy businesswoman shed their rules about love and relationships begins to burn deeper than either of them ever expected.
(JR) Are there any scenes in Fly that are personal to you?
(TAF)The scene that is personal to me and I still deal with regularly is when Skye sends Bolt off for a deployment. There’s a balance that a lot of women try to strike with being strong, yet letting their guy know they are upset and don’t want them to leave. It’s never fun sending someone overseas, no matter the destination.
(JR)Skye is both vulnerable and strong. How did you craft her personality?
(TAF) I really wanted Skye to be relatable. She has a touch exterior when it comes to her own ambitions and career goals, but after meeting Bolt, she discovers there might be more to life than climbing the corporate ladder. He brings out a more sensitive side to her.
(JR)As a military spouse what do you want readers to take away from the story?
(TAF) -For those readers who haven’t had any experience with the military, especially dating someone who serves, I hope Fly helps them see the struggles and strains that test a relationship. It can be romantic and exciting, but there is also an extra level of commitment that has to go into making the relationship work.
(JR) Which one of your characters would you say you can relate to the most and why?
(TAF)This is a tough one! There is probably a little bit of me in all of my female characters, but I try to make sure they have characteristics that challenge me as a writer. There certainly isn’t a cookie cutter one. I wish I had a little bit of all of their strengths! I can probably relate the most to Skye because of the military component and her life with Bolt.
