Hi! I’m Sarah J. Swofford, freelance writer, sex educator, and author of “From Ouch! To Ahhh…The New Mom’s Guide To Sex After Baby.”

I believe moms—especially moms of babies and little ones—are underserved when it comes to easily accessible, relevant to a mom’s life sexual education. I bridge this gap with my writing, speaking, and coaching.

Moms are looking for easy to understand, relatable information that pertains to the challenges that being a sexual womxn, a parent, and a partner, can bring.

On my website, sarahjswofford.com, I explore sexuality research, issues like effective sexual communication, libido differences, and sexual self-esteem—always through a lens of sexual empowerment for womxn. The resources section contains helpful sexua

I'm not sure how many glasses of wine later I thought to myself, there really should be a book about this.

I know I had looked for one after my first child was born and didn't find any that were reassuring and validating. I wanted to read something that would say, guess what, not feeling like having sex is completely normal when you are a new mom, here's why and here's what you can do about it.

Back to our book club getaway. That night was when I knew this topic was important and that moms were being underserved in sexuality resources for new moms.

Then I spent a fabulously instructive year interviewing moms about sex after babies while I read and researched and figured out the format for my book. My initial thought had been to write a book that compiled the sexual stories of new moms into a type of anthology, but my writing coach, Christina Katz, challenged me. She said new moms wanted not only information, but practical approaches and solutions for dealing with sexual challenges. Thus my book, "From Ouch! To Ahhh...The New Mom's Guide To Sex After Baby" was born.(less)

Sarah J. Swofford, From Ouch! To Ahhh...: The New Mom's Guide To Sex After Baby

“Even a soft, gentle return into the world of sex can feel scary when you are a new mom. You worry sex will hurt; that you will not be able to get aroused. You worry you will not enjoy it the same way you did before the baby. Maybe you are concerned your partner's sexual needs will not be met. When you decide to try having sex again, give yourself permission to take your time and only do what feels pleasurable to you.”

“Feeling happy and confident about your sex life is not about how much sex you have. It is about understanding that you get to decide what is right for you.”
