Katherine Sherbrooke is the award-winning author of Leaving Coy's Hill (May, 2021) , a New York Times notable book which was short-listed for the MA Book Awards, Fill the Sky, a finalist for the Mary Sarton Award and the winner of an Indies book of the year award, and a family memoir, Finding Home (2011). An alumna of Dartmouth College and Stanford Business School, she wanted to be an author from the time she opened her first book, and lived on books like food and water for a long time. Somewhere along the line, though, she caught the start-up bug and co-founded a Boston based company called Circles. After that wonderful 15 year+ entrepreneurial adventure, she "remembered" her original dream and finally sat down to write. She lives outside ...more

I heard Walter Mosely say that writing is a "subconscious art" and so every day you are in the story, you go down a level deeper. It only takes a couple of days away from the writing to get pulled completely out. It's TRUE! Even 20 minutes a day allows you to tap into a section of your brain that knows the story better than you do! (less)

I had never heard of her, and yet she was the first woman to speak out regularly for women's rights and one fo her speeches inspired Susan B. Anthony to get involved in the movement. I was fascinated and kept reading and reading about her...until I realized that her story was the book I needed to write. She is the protagonist of Leaving Coy's Hill(less)

My Mother’s Last Lesson

(This essay originally appeared in Cognoscenti)

The color of death is blue. That’s what the hospice nurse told us.

We had rushed to my mother’s bedside from various parts of the country, shocked to see her so diminished. She had suffered from severe dementia for years, but her spirit had remained strong. She’d communicate her delight upon seeing one of us by popping open her e

This book reads like a Ben Mezrich movie/(book)-- a fast paced, deeply researched exploration of the evolution of Tucker Carlson and right-wing media in general. As someone who has long despised Tucker Carlson, FOX News, Brietbart, etc and everything ...more

“But what of two people who do believe in such equality? Then might not their union create something better for each of them than either can create on their own? Wouldn’t any life of purpose be more successful if embarked on with another? I hope so, as I know it is what I most desire. And if two people cannot accomplish more than they could alone, I will remain unmarried and adopt a dog for company.”
