I was in the middle of writing a non-fiction book with my partner, when one evening, in the middle of taking a shower, Thank-You came alive in my mind. I jumped out as quickly as I could, ran to my computer and finished it in about 8 weeks. From the second I started writing, I knew that this story was telling itself, I was just the vessel it chose to bring it to life. (less)

I have spent hours researching the right and wrong ways to do things. I taught myself the different styles of editing, as well as tips and tricks. Mind you, I did not do all of this research to do the editing or formatting myself. I did it so that I would know what to expect from a professional. There is nothing worse than an uneducated consumer. With all of that said, I have my manuscripts beta read by a librarian, a school teacher, a philosopher, as well as another published author, and I use their feedback as a point of reference when reviewing my work. For my first published novel, I hired a professional proofreader and formatter. I will be honest and say that this is where I made my biggest mistake. Because, I had the MS proofread twice I did not personally do a final run through before hitting the publish button, and I released a novel with several catchable errors. So I warn fellow indie authors, no matter who proofreads or formats your novel, always do a final and thorough read-through. That is a mistake that I will never make again. So, in closing I do lots of research, reach out to beta readers who will be an assett to my work, hire professionals, and throughly check and re-check their work (for future reference). (less)

“There is nothing better than being able to swim in a pool of knowledge so deep it forces ignorance to be uncomfortable in its own skin, to where it no longer holds a sense of being, a sense of purpose. That’s what books do. They allow us to live in the minds of every type of human. They allow us to taste the kind of freedom that even the end of slavery didn’t bring.”
