Before pursuing my dream of becoming an author, I was employed as a teaching assistant working in a local school in the north of England. Alongside this I was a self-taught Artist, I'd been painting and selling my art since 2006. My school colleagues were very supportive of my talents and it was in this nurturing and professional environment that I began to think about writing a novel. Inspired by the children I worked with and the wonderful books I'd read to them, I came up with the character of Toby Glass, an inquisitive English schoolboy who goes on a great adventure to China. The book was to be aimed at children as well as young adults.

At around this time I also began a part-time English language and literature degree. The knowledge I began to discover from my studies helped me create two short stories, 'Mr Carter and the Country Spider' and 'Jabbar and the King.' I self-published these stories as ebooks on Kindle. I often read my stories to the children I worked with, which they enjoyed immensely. I quickly realised that I had a gift for writing and continued to develop my first novel 'Toby Glass and the Terracotta Army'. It took me and my editor, Louvisa Danielson, just over two years to complete. I self-published it on Kindle as an ebook. The book became very popular and soon my readers were asking for a paperback edition, which I was more than happy to provide them with.

After a further two months of hard work, Toby Glass as a paperback was made available to my readers. Using my Facebook and Twitter pages I soon gained a following and the book began to sell in various countries worldwide. Its success and the demand for a paperback encouraged me to publish a second edition. I again worked with my editor, Louvisa, she helped me prepare the book, including with the design of an exciting new book cover.

In the months afterwards I wrote and published another two short tales, 'The Very Strange Tale of Mr Straw' and 'Beneath My Bed' as well as a semi-autobiography 'DAWN-The Girl Who Speaks to Ghosts.' I had now started to expand my audience to include adult readers. In December of 2014 I also wrote and published two books of poetry, 'Open Heart Vocabulary' and 'Childsworth', all whilst still studying my degree! It was a very creative year for me.

Realising my potential for writing, I finally decided to leave my job as a teaching assistant, much to the surprise of my colleagues. They were all very supportive however and understood my passion and need to focus on my writing career and further study. I'd had the privilege of working with inspiring teachers and wonderful children. My time working at the school gave me much job satisfaction and was a rewarding experience, something I hope to do again in the near future.

Since the launch of Toby Glass I have been a guest on radio and television. My books have gained national recognition. I have been short listed for a national award and my biography has been featured in many magazines.

I intend to continue writing inspiring tales that unite people of all backgrounds, as well as provide my readers with entertaining and positive role models through the characters in my tales. I feel we are in a time where unity is needed more than ever. By working together we can achieve so much more than being divided and competitive.

With my books now selling around the world I have achieved my dream of becoming an author. I now intend to publish Toby Glass in Chinese, created for readers in the far-east where my writing is becoming popular too. I have big ambitions to one day have my stories made into stage plays, TV dramas, animation and film. I hope you will be with me on this fantastic journey.

Daring to listen to my dreams and give up my day job was a huge risk, where I did not know if there was going to be a pay-off. I dared to dream and dared to act on those dreams. I hope that I will be an inspiration to others, particularly young people, to dare them into following ...more
