Advice to Writers on Rainy Days - 10/1
As I watch the rain fall from the clouds that loom over a hazy Boston, I reflect on what drives my soul this morning. It's a love that drives me into the puddles left by the small droplets, forming into something bigger, it's the wispy breeze that flows through my fingertips. It's a desire to make cups of tea and sit by the window, face pressed against the glass, watching those same droplets create a small lake beside the road.
To those who find trouble with the days that bring the rain, take a moment. Sit by the window and match your breathing to the dripping of the raindrops. Let the cool breeze blow through your hair and leave little nippy kisses on your face. Make a hot tea, coffee, or chocolate, put on your favorite music, and never force anything to happen. Be as free as the drops splashing on the sidewalk, bellow through your town like the breeze, and feel the weight of the world leave your fingertips as you watch the weather from your window. Wear pajamas and slippers, play your dad's old records, write on napkins, or put on your yellow rainboots and fight with the still water on the ground, awaken it to awaken your soul. Go outside, stay in your bedroom, or sit in a chair with your face pressed against the glass, no matter what you choose, stay inspired by the weather, and take some time to slow your life down as you watch the rain slowly catch itself and fall to puddles on the ground.
