I'm a writer.
And a reader.
And some other things, too.
I used to be an actor, but after an 18-year career, I decided to search for something that felt more authentic to me. I left Hollywood and moved to Virginia. I love books, yoga, my husband, and books some more.

Thank you so much! It's such a joy to know that my words get a warm welcome when I send them out there.
Great question - and yes, I do have a novel knocking around in my brain. However, my next book will be non-fiction again, it's still just coming together, but it's going to focus on anxiety and ways of dealing. But I have several other books that I keep thinking about....
So, I guess I'd better get writing!
Thanks for the question!(less)

First of all - thank you, for reading the blog and for asking a question. Second - great question.

You're right, there is a lot of ridiculousness that gets thrown around. I wish it were just aimed at public people, but it's not - everyone is fair game. Humans tend to be a very judgmental bunch. If I were a working mom, I'd get bashed for that...if I were a stay-at-home mom, I'd get bashed for that. As it is, I get criticized for not being a mom at all! We find all kinds of reasons to fault one another. Does it hurt? Yes. Is it a universal pain? Yes. I try to take some comfort in that.

I also love this Gandhi quote: "I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet." I can't control what other people do, only how I respond. And it's helpful to realize that some people just like to leave their dirty, judgemental footprints all over the place.

All that being said, I've found the vast majority of people to be wonderfully kind and supportive. It's actually been shocking and has reaffirmed my faith in the internet community. (Well....Huffpost commenters aside...because if you read the comments, you are just asking for a whole lot of dirty footprints...)(less)

I did a keynote speech at The Lady Project Summit recently and Avery and Erica made a meme of it. Which flatters me beyond belief. I LOVE being a meme.

It captures something that I said during the Q&A section of my talk when a woman in the audience asked me about finding balance. Dozens of heads around her nodded as if they were equally baffled by this idea of how to have a balan

“It's never too late to change your mind and be who you were meant to be. Our minds can be really powerful things, and they can come up with a million reasons as to why you can't make a change. Our minds can say that it's not logical, or it's been like this for too long, or it's too hard, or what are people going to think. But sometimes it's more important to live from your gut and from your heart than from your head... It's okay to decide that being happy is worth more than getting the law degree, or marrying your high-school sweetheart because they were nice enough, or being an actor because you think you're incapable of doing anything else. It's never too late to take charge of your destiny and make a different contribution to the world.”

“I had been treated like an adult more than was necessary, being the object of inappropriate affections from producers who left gifts of cashmere sweaters in my dressing room and hugged me for too long. Those men told me how beautiful I was, and how I was so mature for my age, and they just couldn’t talk to their wives the way they could talk to me.”
