Hi! Thank you for your question!

I wrote the first draft of Champions: at fire's end in my final two years of high school, and it began as a way to explore what might happen and what it might feel like for best friends to suddenly find themselves on opposite sides of a war or struggle. The friends needed a backdrop that could divide them, though, something that had high enough stakes to make them question their loyalty and love for each other and whether there was something worth so much that they would sacrifice that bond. When I was growing up, I watched pretty much every episode of Xena and Hercules (animated and The Legendary Journeys!), and adored Ancient Greek and Roman mythology, so found my characters' war in once again pitting the Titans and Olympians against each other. In the narratives that were around at the time, it had seemed like the Titans had been imprisoned for such a long time and preventing their escape seemed a pretty common goal, but they're incredibly interesting and I wanted to explore what would happen if the Titans and Olympians were all unleashed on the world and forced to co-exist while working out a more permanent solution to their battle.(less)

Thank you for your question :) I have loved reading and writing stories since I was little! I started writing the Champions series during my final two years of high school, and have pretty much revised each manuscript in the series once or twice a year since then while I worked on other stories. “Delicate hairpins twinkled through the air, moving effortlessly to hold her fringe from her eyes. She didn’t glance to the hairpins. But she didn’t touch them, either.”
Charlotte Jain, Champions: At fire's end

“Kyle,” my gaze locked on his, “pick up the apple core, and plant it in your garden.”
His expression became washed with momentary vacancy.
“Yeah, my bad,” he responded, monotone. Robotic, he turned and walked behind the bush, picked up the apple core and stuffed it into his pocket. “I’ll plant it in my garden.”
Clarity returned to his eyes, seemingly unaware of the catalyst for his noble actions, and the half eaten apple now residing in his pocket”
Charlotte Jain, Champions: At fire's end

“Sometimes when we’re in trouble, there are others there to help us,” I said, “but sometimes no one’s there. All we have is ourselves. You can choose to give up, or to try. Because, on the darkest days, when you’re losing and the world is against you, when everything you know is crashing down around you, and you’re all alone, all you have, is you. And who you are. And what you believe.”
Charlotte Jain, Champions: At fire's end
