Why I Love Writers

The world will never quite understand me. Even those who love me, will never get what it is that drives me to write. They won't know the years I've spent working on my craft, the amount of energy and hope and life I've put into an imaginary world filled with imaginary people, the hours I've spent researching and seeking the best avenues to publish.

But you do.

You are my people-- the only people who UNDERSTAND! The only ones who really can.  It’s okay for other people not to get it, not to see all the work that goes on behind the scenes. The panic and the tears we shed. The passion we share. The many many many many hours we put into this “little” “hobby” of ours.

Publishing is NOT easy. It doesn’t matter which stage you are in, writing/editing/querying your first book, your 18th, or publishing your 5th. This process is GRUELING.

And yet, we keep going. We spend months, if not years working on the same story that may never actually see the light of day. We dust ourselves off after every rejection and we keep working. We keep dreaming.

We work to get better. We SEEK criticism because it might help us be better, help us find that magic formula for best-seller-dom.

We dream the same dream and though our set backs are often individual to each of us, they aren’t so different that we can’t all relate.

No matter who you are, what you write or how long you’ve been doing it—You are my tribe. And I love you!

If you're a writer-- of any kind, shape, or experience-- you are incredible.

Always, Always, Always A Bridesmaid-- Why I'm Entering Pitch Wars

Hey guys! I write YA and MG— contemporary, fantasy and anything in between. I have two books published with Entangled Teen but I’ve never, ever had an agent.
I’ve also been a Mentor in Pitch Wars for the last four years.

It’s strange to help authors get agents when you’ve never had one, though I know there are several mentors in that same boat and it’s not a bad thing! I’ve been very successful at doing such. Every one of my full mentees have signed agents with their PW book, two of them went on to sell their books to big publishers-- very quickly! That’s a pretty good track record!
I’ve also queried four books, and have never received an offer of representation.
Writing is so full of ups and downs, and sometimes we could use some help. Everyone has their faults—things they’re good at and things they’re not. It’s my belief that any writer could benefit from a mentor. In fact, a lot of writers have them—they call them agents.
Not all agents are super editorial, but even if they’re not they can help guide you in what is in your best interest to write and how to manage a career. An agent is a cheerleader, a teacher, a guide and an open door to places you wouldn’t otherwise have access. A mentor is different, but similar, at least when looking at it from this angle. They’re a friend, a teacher, an advocate, a loving and guiding hand-- someone who unequivocally believes in you.
Those are things I don’t have, nor have I ever. Those are things I’d kill to have (okay, not literally.)

Which is why I’m entering Pitch Wars this year as a hopeful mentee, instead of mentor.
I don’t know if I’ll be picked. I assume some people will suspect it’ll be easier for me to be chosen because of my background—I think it’ll be the opposite. I’ll be specifically choosing mentors who I have never interacted with, which greatly limits my choices. There are several reasons a mentor wouldn’t want to choose someone who’s mentored in the past, or published already etc.  We’ll see. It’s worth a shot anyway.

The book I’m entering has also already been queried. Not insanely widely… but it’s been out there. Still no offers. I still believe in this book, and think it could benefit in having a mentor. I believe it can be made much stronger than it is now.  If I don’t get a mentor… I’ll be looking into other options beside agents.
But I still want the chance. So I’m going for it.

A Pitch Wars Mentor's Real Reward

Someone once asked me about being a Pitch Wars Mentor, "But what do you get out of it?"

Pitch Wars is a contest for authors seeking representation (a massive step towards becoming traditionally published.)

Brenda Drake, selected some qualified members of the publishing industry (mostly agented/published authors) who were willing to spend months of their own time mentoring one promising author, hopefully giving them a leg up towards meeting their goal of publishing success!

I am one of those mentors
(or at least I have been since PW year #2)

I give a few weeks of my time, reading through the 70-100 submissions sent to me in order to find a book I personally want to see published. We then spend two months working with that author to make their full manuscript SHINE! Sometimes this means big revisions, other times it means just some sprucing or somewhere in between. Then we send their lovelies into the world, hoping agents,(followed by editors) will love them and sign them, and eventually turn their words into a real live book.

Pitch Wars mentors don't get paid for any of this. Not even if/when one of those authors is published because of PW. All I expect, as I've said many times before, is a signed copy once it's published.

So what do I get out of it?

Well, I first volunteered because I wanted to continue to be a part of this amazing community of writers. I entered as an aspiring author the first year PW existed, and even once I became published, I didn't want to give it up!

I've met some amazing friends through Pitch Wars. Some great, amazing and successful authors, who are all willing to help each other out whenever possible. That means they've helped promote my books, and they've also helped me revise some of the WIPs (work in progress).

That's reason enough, to be honest.

But there is one thing that is bigger than all the rest. One REAL reason I do this. One reason this is all worth it.

YES! THAT IS ONE OF MY MENTEE BOOKS!

I picked Amanda Searcy's book, then titled TRUTH IS, out of my "slush pile" during Pitch Wars 2015. I spent months working with her on this book. She then went on to snag an agent AND a book deal in a matter of weeks after Pitch Wars.

I realize that I can only take so much credit, because this book was amazing (seriously guys, that ending? Believe me I had nothing to do with that. Read it to find out ;)) but the fact that I had a hand in helping this book get published is an amazing feeling.  Seeing my name in the acknowledgements? Holding a personally signed copy? Is a feeling only second to holding my own book, with my own name on the cover ;)

I am SO PROUD of Amanda and her accomplishments. She did this, I was just there to help her along the way a little.

Being that little part of her author-story is the best reward any mentor can ever have ever.

Check out her book here!

Pitch Wars: getting to know #TeamGingersnaps!

Pitch Wars is coming! Pitch Wars is coming!

I love this time of year, when we start imagining all about our potential mentees. Getting to know some awesome up and coming writers (that's you, btw :)

Last year I teamed up with the awesome Rebecca Sky and we're going at it again in 2017! Together, we're #TeamGingersnaps.

This year, our wishlist is going up over one Rebecca Sky's blog, so I decided to do something a little extra fun on mine as an extension of our wishlist. This post isn't about what we want to see in our inbox (I'll link to that once it's up!) it's a more personal and fun post. A fun interview to get to know us both!

Rebecca Sky is a WattPad Star (literally) and the author of forthcoming YA ARROWHEART, from Hodder Children a division of Hachette Book Group (2018)

Stacey Trombley is a YA contemporary author with Entangled Teen. Her first book NAKED debuted in 2015 and her second PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES released January 2017

Now to the fun part!

#1. Describe your writing process in GIFs
Rebecca Sky

Stacey Trombley (Please note, my use of Sheldon Cooper does not mean I think I'm a genius ;) )

#2 What's your Myers Briggs personality?
Rebecca Sky

Bohemian, lover of all, dreamer, prefers snuggling with my dogs and reading a book over just about anything.

Stacey Trombley

Well, I'm also INFP... sort of. I never fit Myers Briggs personalities totally because I'm pretty split on 2 of the 4 categories, but Intro/Extroversion especially (I consider myself an Ambivert, but that's another discussion!) INFP is the closest to right, but I still have a lot of Extroverted and Thinking tendencies.

Tell me about the role music plays in your writing
Rebecca Sky
I love writing to music, but I get distracted when it has lyrics. So when i discovered pandora's playlist on youtube I was hooked. They have 2 and 4 hour videos that are accompanied by stunning art. I do sprints to 2 hours ones often! Check them out:

Stacey Trombley

I love creating playlists for my books and I sometimes write to them, but I honestly zone out so thoroughly when I’m writing that I hardly hear any of it.  Some of my favorites to write to: Finger Eleven and ZZ Ward. Also one of my favorite songs for well, anything, including writing: Shatter Me by Lzzy Hale featuring Lindsey Stirling.

Pick ONE image from Pinterest to share

Rebecca Sky

Stacey Trombley

(My husband thought this looked super evil and creepy. I don't see evil at all. I see lots of emotions in those eyes. What do you see?)

Pick ONE book to share and tells us why you love it (we all have a million favorites, it doesn’t have to be your #1, just pick one)

Rebecca Sky

Oh man, this book is so brilliant. I've both read it and listen to the audio book (which is also amazing). I love my antihero's and this has, not only the best antihero I've ever read, but some of the best characters. Want a character masterclass? Read this book. *fun fact: the author is also a Pitch Wars mentor.

Stacey Trombley

I thought about doing Dangerous Girls (one of my ultimate favorites) but then thought I'd be clever and post one of my previous mentee books :) This was my 2015 mentee, Amanda Searcy. Her book was then titled Truth Is. It's in the same vein as Dangerous Girls, anyway ;)

What's your favorite movie and why?
Rebecca Sky

Labyrinth, it's magical and it has lines like this; "I move the stars for no one," and, "fear me, love me, do as I say, and I will be your slave," and "it's only forever, it's not that long at all." And also David Bowie...
Stacey Trombley

Penelope! This this a cute and quirky modern fairy-tale. It's super sweet and fun to watch and also... James McCavoy! Love him (I also refuse to watch Split because I like him too much) And though she plays a small role, I also LOOOOOVE me some Reese Witherspoon :)

Favorite 90's Jam
Rebecca Sky
Lauryn Hill's Unplugged album was my 90's go to. I listened to it so much i had to buy the CD 3 times.

Stacey Trombley
I have lots of favorite 90's songs, I fully considered Love Fool but went with Natalie Imbruglia's Torn because the lyrics are awesome.

That's team GingerSnaps! Feel free to ask us questions in the comments! About ourselves or about what we're looking for in PW! (Though I won't answer until the blog hop is live. Not long though, folks!)

After graduating high-school, Rebecca Sky set out on a five-year, 24 Country exploration to find herself. She slept in a hammock in the Amazon Jungle, skinny-dipped off the West African Coast, ate Balut while holding a monkey in the Philippines, and fell in love in Cuba (then again in Brazil, and a final time to a Rocker from Canada). Rebecca returned home to the West Coast captivated by the world and ready for another adventure.

So she did what every wanderer does when standing still—began writing. Her work has since garnered over 20 million reads on Wattpad, and she’s had the opportunity to partner with some really great brands. She was featured in The New York Times and The Boston Globe. Her debut ARROWHEART will be published by Hodder Children a division of Hachette Book Group. Look for that in stores June 2018!

Stacey Trombley is a YA contemporary author who lives in Ohio with her husband, baby boy and the sweetest Rottweiler you’ll ever meet. She thinks people are fascinating and any chance she has, she’s off doing or learning something new. She went on her first mission trip to Haiti at age twelve and is still dying to go back. Her “places to travel” list is almost as long as her “books to read” list.
Her debut novel NAKED released from Entangled teen in 2015 and her second book PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES released January 2017.Find her on twitter and instagram @trombolii and on facebook.com/StaceyPTrombley

To All The Houses I Loved Before

This year, my husband and I decided to finally make the jump and buy a new and nicer house, closer to where he works. Right now he’s driving an hour to work, 5 days a week. Wowzer! Cutting that drive down to 15-30 minutes was going to make a huge difference!

What we didn’t anticipate was that, apparently,  we picked the worst time in the last decade to buy a house (literally!) Who knew it was a seller’s market? Cause we didn’t. We also didn’t know that April is the WORST month of the year to buy, followed by May. Good times. Not until we started losing houses in multiple offer situations left and right did we realize we had to catch up to reality real fast.

After seeing 34 houses and putting offers on SIX of them, we finally got an offer accepted! But man, was that a journey. So many ups and down. So much doubt and fear and anger and ugh, not-funness. So this is my little slideshow of all the houses we missed out on, and how we ended up with the right house (cause that’s kind of a funny story on its own)

Once Upon A Time...
Our family finally got on board with the let's-buy-a-house idea and went to look at houses (an hour to an hour and a half away!) the second week in April. Not super committed to buying just yet, but willing to look. Then we found a house that hubby and his Dad LOVED. Apparently it reminded them of one of my husband’s childhood homes (they moved around tons but this was one of the few they actually owned and was apparently the nicest house they had) It was also pretty massive, with 3 big living spaces and 4 bedrooms. Size wise, it was really by far the most perfect house we’d find in any of our searches (we required 4 beds and at least 2 living spaces)
House #1

To me this was a decent house, definitely had the space we needed but I wasn’t overly in love. Hubby sold me by telling me the formal living area would be mine. Dude, did I have all the ideas for that little room (it was going to be an Instagram and Pinterest worthy BOOKISH room, in my mind. With book stack floating shelves, and a book page wreath in the center. Several book shelves, my desk and of course some kind of fun seating etc etc)
We could have gotten that house if we’d know what the market was really like. But we ended up wasting time bartering over price and which left the door open for a second offer which won out.

(Update: this house sold for over asking which surprises me even now. We were offering a good chunk under... We were soooo oblivious to the market

#PWSummerSplash

Pitch Wars is right around the corner and already the hashtag on twitter is getting busy (don't know what Pitch Wars is? Learn about it here:)There are so many great things about contests like this and one of them is the online community. Meeting other writers, learning new things, having FUN (because a lot of the process of getting published is NOT fun) So this year I wanted to add on a little something on Instagram.

Why? Becuase Instagram is a huge platform, one of the biggest social media sites out there (and much better for book promotion than twitter right now) It's good for all of us (mentors and mentees) to be out there using it. We can follow each other, chat, and get used to using this very cool and useful platform. Plus, it's FUN!

So basically, there is a post prompt for each day of July. Just post using the hashtag and you're in!

But since it's more familiar to some than others, I'm going to answer a few questions  about the event here.

1) How does Instagram work? Instagram is kind of like a combination of Twitter and Facebook except every post is a picture, but you can write under the picture with all the information/stories/jokes/hashtags you want. You have friends and followers, but you can also use hashtags to get interaction from people all over. Hashtags are really what run Instagram. Pay attention to them-- they are the key!

2) Do I have to do this? Nothing about this is required. This is just for fun, to get us up and chatting and using something other than Twitter to hang out! Zero points will be deducted from you for not doing this, or anything. Submit a book I love, after not saying a word to me, or posting on Twitter, Instagram or your blog even once and I'll still be wiling to pick you (but I looove the community so do yourself a favor and get chatting! ;) )

3) Can I just post these on Twitter? Yes, you can just post on twitter, but you'll be missing out on a lot by not hopping onto Instagram, and like I said, it's a useful platform so consider starting an account if you don't already have one!

4) What if I come in late? Can I still play? Yes! We started this a bit early, not everyone will be involved in the #PitchWars fun yet, since the mentors wishlists aren't even out, but that's okay. If you come in days after the start, you can still play. Mostly, I'll suggest just starting on the day we're on and go from there, but you're also welcome to backtrack and post some of the previous prompts. Up to you. This isn't a very structured event ;) Just interact and you're in.

TIP: Make sure you use the #PWSummerSplash hashtag on every post, but use any and all hashtags on your posts to cast a wider net (#Bookstagram is a good one but check out what other people are using and include those if they're relevant. You can also do a little research if need be)

TIP: The best way to take advantage of this game and others, isn't to be "ZOMG, THE BEST!" Standing out is great, posting beautiful pictures is awesome, but if you don't that's okay too. It isn't about having the most amazing pictures, or getting the most likes. It's about stretching yourself and interacting. So post comments and like other's pictures, that's how you make the most of it.

And Warning about posting lines from your manuscripts, last year we had an incident where it seemed one person stole a line from another and called it their own. Don't do that. It's very likely it'll be noticed and it will look very badly on you. Be proud of your own work and praise people whose work you love.

Now, since the image only has a vague description of each day's challenge I'll elaborate on them here!

1) Introduction, Just introduce yourself, does not have to be a picture of you, but can be. Be creative if you don't like taking pictures of yourself.
2) #SockSunday, take a picture of your socks, traditionally done with books. Mostly, it's just cute.
3) Coffee or Tea, The great debate. Pick a team and fight to the death (aka just post which one you'd prefer, with picture of said beverage in a cute mug if you have one :)  (or be a rebel and post lemonade or whatever you prefer to drink
4) First Line of your MS, (MS means manuscript) If you are entering Pitch Wars, post the first line of that book. This one is fun on Twitter too. On Instagram, it'll require you to get more creative. You can just take a picture of your word file on your computer, or add the words over a picture ( There are free copyright free stock photos available online or take your own) or just type the words over a colored back round in Paint or whatever program you have (PhotoGrid is a fun app on your phone you can also use and I'm sure there are tons more)
(MENTORS: pick a line from one of your published books or from a WIP, or even the first line of a previous mentees book, if you get permission.)
5) Revision tips/goals, Do you have some revision goals to complete before you submit to Pitch Wars? Tell us about them. Do you have a writing lesson/rule you learned recently? Share it with the rest of us. Mentors can post about things you want people who submit to you to keep in mind. Common problems, homework you give to writers etc. Basically just any advice you'd like to hand out.
6) #ThrowbackThursday, this is a popular hashtag on most social media sites, basically just a picture of you from the past. It could also be a previous MS, or show how your MS has changed (an old title, maybe?) Lots of fun can be had on this one. Feel free to step outside the box.
7) #FridayReads, what are you reading right now? Or what was your most recent read? Take a cute picture of the book and use all the bookish hashtags you desire (yes, you can take a picture with an Ebook too)
8) Favorite Writing Spot, Take a picture of the place you most like to write. It might be an office, it might be your bed, it might be a local coffee shop. Whatever
9) Writing Companions, This one, I imagine, will be mostly cute pets but can also be supportive friends and family, or kids or coffee cups, or dolls/stuffed animals that sit near your computer. Again, be creative!
10) #MusicMonday, Share a song that represents your book, or one you like to write to or just your favorite band.
11) Your Main Character, this could be an actor, something more abstract like a few items that represent them, or if you can draw (well or not, no judgement ;) ) post an illustration (those would be pretty popular, I'm sure!)
12) Favorite Writing Quote, so many good quotes out there. Find one and post it! Could also be less specific to writing, something inspirational.
13) Favorite reading spot, Share a picture of the place you most like to read!
14) Comp titles, a comp title is a published book (or movie, tv show etc) that you could compare your book to. A lot of books are sold by saying "The One And Old Ivan meets The Night Circus," etc (though it's best not to use massive best sellers like Hunger Games, Game Of Thrones and Harry Potter.) If readers of those books will love your book, that can be a comp. Take a picture of one or two of them and post away!
15) Last Line of your MS, see "first line" above. Same thing, just the last line of your book. If it's too spoilery you can  alter it a bit, cut out pieces or be all abstract and blur out the whole thing.
16) Your favorite Instagram post from the last year,This would be your own Instagram post, show us who you are outside PW, but if you don't have any from the last year, you can find any Instagram post you like and share it (just make sure you give them credit and @ them)
17) Favorite Line from your MS, same as the other two except this one can come from ANYWHERE in your book. Just find a line you love and share it. It can be amazingly written, or it can be a great scene,  or voice. It can be compelling, dramatic, quirky, funny. Show us whatever you want to showcase.
18) Show your warrior pose, this is a just a silly one. Post a picture of you looking fierce or a Gif of ninja. Whatever
19) Who do you #ship? Ship means a couple you want to be together. Think of people from a book or movie or TV show that you want to be together.
20) Favorite Fandom, a fandom is just a community of people who are fans of the same thing. Supernatural, Pretty Little Liars, Game Of Thrones, Dr. Who, Harry Potter etc. Those are big ones, but there are small ones too. If you read or write Fanficiton about a show or book that totally counts. If you talk about it on Twitter or Facebook that can count too.
21) Shout out a mentor's book, That's pretty self explanatory. Just find one of the Pitch Wars mentor's published (or soon to be published) book and post about it. You can pull it up in your kindle, take a screen shot of it on Amazon, post a favorite line from it. Extra credit if you have a physical copy of it, but you don't need to. It does not have to be a mentor you're submitting to, it can be any of them, even in a different category.
22) Weird fact about you, here's where we can get a little fun getting to know each other. Tell us something we don't already know about you. Some things you'll have to get creative about how you post it to Instagram but we're all creative types, yeah?
23)Favorite book, take a picture with your favorite book (you can be in it, or not. Up to you. I'm not usually in my Instagram posts unless it's just my socks ;) )
24) #IfIWonTheLottery, (or got a huge book deal) pretty much what fun things would you do/buy if you suddenly got tons of money? Make this fun!
25)Writing habits, Do you always drink coffee (or wine?) while you write? Eat Oreo's or M&Ms? Do you have to be in complete silence or always listen to music? Do you write the ending first? Start in the middle?  Do you use Write Or Die, or Scriver? Do you use an ancient computer like George R.R. Martin? Do you write by hand? Or use a voice to text program? Anything you specifically do when you write. Have fun with it.
26) #1 on your travel wishlist, where is the number one place you want to travel? I'll allow places you've actually been because those pictures will be cool to see :)
27) #ThankfulThursday, I image this to be a lot of shout outs to CPs and writing friends, or spouses or parents maybe even old teachers that encouraged you. Who are you thankful for? Specifically that has supported or helped your writing but could be anything. (hint, it can also be to Brenda Drake for creating Pitch Wars ;) )
28)Favorite writing website, there are tons out there and some we may not all be aware of so share your favorites. It can be a specific post if you want. Something that has help you!
29) #Novelaesthetics, (did I spell that right? LOL) basically a few images compiled to represent your novel. Themes and tones etc.  (look for examples if you need help)
30) Mentor hints, By this point most of you will know some (or all) of the mentors you're submitting to so give some VAGUE hints. The mentors will post some teasing tweets when reading through their slush, now is your chance to tease them. Realistically, it's in your best interest not to tell us too obviously the people you're submitting too. Just have fun and don't make anyone feel left out.
31) Build yourself up, tell us your greatest strength, I assume this will mostly be writing related. Tell us what you're good at! Writing dialog? Evoking emotion? Don't worry about being humble, or people not agreeing with you, toot your own horn for a minute and help yourself feel GOOD about what you write.

Have more questions? Shoot them in the comments or on Twitter! Now go have some fun!

The Changing Tides Of Social Media

It's long been known that social media is the behemoth of book promotion... okay, any promotion. It's a wide open opportunity to access your target audience in their natural habitat!

What's interesting about social media, though, is that it's always changing. Like, one day Myspace was hot and the next no one even knows if it still exists. It's also important to note that different demographics tend to hang out on different social media platforms.
It's not enough to have a Facebook page and call it a day. It's probably not enough to have a decent Twitter account anymore. Why? Because your target audience very well may not be using those platforms (even if they were two years ago).
This means that what works for an author of a different category, or even genre, may not work for you.

Keeping up with the changing times can be tough because it means learning a new platform and building an audience all over again.
Since I've learned about the rise in popularity of Instagram (particularly for teens), I've been working on ways to build my audience and content there. A few ways I've done that:
1) Use it! Dig around on the site and learn what's working for other people. I've found that pretty pictures of books is actually a thing that pulls in lots of people! Fun!

2) Learn the ins and outs and how to reach people. Every platform is different so learn what makes this new one tick. For me, this meant a lot of googling! (Google never goes out of style). Example: hashtags rule Instagram! So learn the good ones for what you want to post/who you want to reach and use lots!

3) Find your "thing". You want to have a focus if you want to build an audience (this is like branding. They follow you because they want more of what you’re giving. They probably don’t want tons of selfies unless you’re really good at makeup!(which is also a thing!) For Instagram that one is pretty easy since as authors we all tend to LOVE books, and there is a huge community of book lovers who want to see things ALL ABOUT BOOKS (but make sure the pictures are *pretty*). For other Platforms that can be a bit trickier. If you don’t have something specific you know you want to post about, tag onto what someone else is doing well and try to make a twist on it. With my Instagram I’m doing the bookish things but also I started doing book page crafts along with it.

4) Start posting! Every day! One of the keys to being successful in social media it consistent content. Most of the pages with higher interaction post more than once a day. You can’t build an audience if you only post every once in a while.

5) Interact! Remember that this is SOCIAL media. Be social! Look at other people’s posts, see what’s out there and tell them when you like it! Answer questions. Give advice if they ask for it and you have something to say. When you interact with them, they’re more likely to turn around and interact with you.

In the end, social media is a beast. It can boost your chances of a book deal, it can sell books once you’re published—but boy can it be scary to approach. Take it one step at a time and have fun. It won’t happen in a day so don’t stress. If you use it to show off something you love to do you will do just fine!
What has been your experience with social media? Do you have any additional tips? (I’d love some for Instagram! ;) )

My Book Has A Cover!

In the publishing world we make a big deal about covers.

It's the first (and sometimes only) time a book has an official image to represent it. We all know the whole "never judge a book by its cover" is dead, and the cover is SUPER important. And... SUPER fun.

Covers can make or break a book. They can inspire and evoke emotion (something I personally think my NAKED cover did!) They also allow the author a moment to sum up their book in ONE snapshot. That snapshot better be good because it's all you get.

The cover reveal also denotes the moment that the REAL fun begins with a book.

Now that Pushing The Boundaries is up for pre-order (eep) it means that I can start running giveaways to promote it!

-Look below for how you can receive an *automatic* free Pushing The Boundaries book necklace.

-Sign up for my newsletter for a chance to win one of several digital advance reader copies of Pushing The Boundaries (in the bar to the right, just type your email in and you are entered! The exclusive first chapter will be also available in the newsletter starting today!)
-and I have a plan to reward some of my NAKED readers coming up here soon!

But now, let's check out this cover so we can get the party started, shall we??

Myra goes to Haiti with one goal: take the photograph that will win a scholarship and prove to her uber-traditional family that she has what it takes to be a photographer instead of a doctor. Her camera has always been her shield against getting too close to anyone, but she didn’t expect the hot teen translator who has an ability to see past her walls.
Elias needs his job as a translator to provide for his siblings. He can’t afford to break the rule forbidding him from socializing with a client. Except this girl Myra insists on going outside the city to capture the perfect picture, and he steps in as her guide in order to keep her safe.
The deeper they travel into the country, the harder they fall for each other. Now they’re both taking risks that could cost each other their dreams.
If they get too close—it could ruin both their lives.

Cover Reveal: Other Breakable Things by Kelley York & Rowan Altwood!

other-breakable-things-cover-reveal
Let us know what you think of the cover for Other Breakable Things by Kelley York & Rowan Altwood which releases April 4, 2017!This cover reveal is brought to you by Entangled TEEN & YA Books Central!
Kelley and Rowan’s thoughts on the cover:We're pretty lucky in that Kelley got to design the cover for Other Breakable Things. We went through so many vastly different designs over the last few months, it'd make your head spin. It's almost funny that the one everyone ended up liking the best was the simplest. The quietest. It was also the first one Rowan saw where she said, "Yes, that's it. That one." And, hey, she was right.
  obt
About Other Breakable Things:According to Japanese legend, folding a thousand paper cranes will grant you healing. Evelyn Abel will fold two thousand if it will bring Luc back to her. Luc Argent has always been intimately acquainted with death. After a car crash got him a second chance at life—via someone else’s transplanted heart—he tried to embrace it. He truly did. But he always knew death could be right around the corner again. And now it is. Sick of hospitals and tired of transplants, Luc is ready to let his failing heart give out, ready to give up. A road trip to Oregon—where death with dignity is legal—is his answer. But along for the ride is his best friend, Evelyn. And she’s not giving up so easily. A thousand miles, a handful of roadside attractions, and one life-altering kiss later, Evelyn’s fallen, and Luc’s heart is full. But is it enough to save him? Evelyn’s betting her heart, her life, that it can be. Right down to the thousandth paper crane.
