If you don't have anything new to write about at the moment in your current work, I believe you need to start on something else or to read and edit what you do have.

The absolute necessity to read. As an author, I find it necessary to read books of all ages and genres.

It's also fascinating to talk with readers and fans about my work. As a revisionist it's exciting to hear what they thought about the changes I've made and the ones they would have.

Often, when you know the original story, my changes can be mind blowing. (less)

“If you haven't heard a rumor by noon, make one up. If you're a writer, make sure it's a full page of the book you're currently working on.”
Lamont Tanksley, Incidents In The Life of A Girl: The Unattainable Mulatto

“The job of the writer is to take a close and uncomfortable look at the world they inhabit, the world we all inhabit, and the job of the novel is to make the corpse stink.”
Walter Mosley
