The Adventures of a New Author
And I thought WRITING the books was hard...
I had no idea.
Once the decision to self publish manifested itself and I completed the process..the inevitable... "Now what?" Began.
I have, what I think, is a very marketable story for the target audiience I intended it for, but how the heck do I get it out there?
My first shot was Facebook.
I posted my accomplishment with links to get the book at createspace and Amazon. I loved the positive feedback from my friends and family and basked a bit in the accomplishment, but I wanted more...I felt like I needed to do more.
What Next?
Why not go visit the settings of the book and pitch it to them? So, after the books arrived in physical form, I packed up and headed to the Lake George area in upstate New York. What a wonderful adventure that was. I had done considerable research about Fort Ticonderoga and had visited the Saratoga Battlefied years ago when I began my research, but this time it was not unlike a pilgrimage. The best part of the trip was the chance to meet so many intersting and entertaining folks along the way. Lots of great conversations and in the end....the visit paid off as I was able to set up book distribution points at Fort Ticonderoga and the Northshore Bookstore in Saratgoa Springs.
Now What?
I knew it was time to get the buzz brewing in earnest back home so we did a private book release/signing party at the house. What a thrill that was! It warmed my heart to see so many friends, family, and acquaintances turn up for what was a proud moment for the entire family.
And Now?
I am headed over to M&P Bookstore in Willoughby, Ohio to drop off books to sell there...this will give everyone around me a chance to find the book other than an online order. Another Book signing at that location is forthcoming.
I also recently hooked up with the website storycartel.com to continue to promote The Stand at Sartaoga to a wide audience.
As the book gets out there, I have to fortify myself against the inevitability that not everyone will like it, but that is the chance I'm willing to take.
So......the Adventure Continues!
