Just to add to my last post, Invasion is now free on Amazon too. I'd been trying to give away INVASION for some time now and the general advice was to offer it for free on other sites (Smashwords, ITunes etc.) and then badger Amazon to match the price. I’d read that it could take a while so, being an impatient person, I emailed Amazon directly through my Author Central account. Surprisingly, they made Amazon free within twelve hours, so for those of you who want to get your back catalogue on Amazon for free, try emailing them directly.

Now that my latest thriller 'The Angola Deception' has been released, I'm letting 'Invasion' go for good. Free as a bird. Literally. It's up on Kobo, Itunes and Smashwords for nothing, and I'm pressuring Amazon to follow suit. Hopefully they'll do that soon. It's also downloadable from my website at www.dcaldenbooks.com.

Countdown to Valkyrie: The July Plot to Assassinate Hitler by Nigel Jones

I recently re-watched the Tom Cruise movie ‘Valkyrie’ and decided to find out a little more about the plot to kill Hitler. Nigel Jones’ excellent book, focussing not only on the assassination attempt at the Wolf’s Lair but also the sheer breadth of resistance to Hitler’s rule, is fast paced, engaging and full of fascinating detail. I found the bravery of many of the plotters humbling while the terrible post-putsch retribution of the Nazis continued unabated, torturing and hanging alleged conspirators even as the Russians were surrounding Berlin. I consider myself reasonably knowledgeable about the history of the Second World War but I learned much from this first-rate book and recommend it highly.
