My Year In Books
Holy mother, this has been quite the year in reading! I'm not doing a best of list because, lol I created a shelf for that. You can find my top reads here: Harper's Fave Reads In 2015
What makes them top reads? The writing was awesome, the characters roped me in, and I never wanted to let go, and lastly, the author took me on a journey that kept me thinking long after I finished. So much so, I probably followed them on Twitter or friended them on Facebook. I FANGIRL HARD! I will also scream from the rooftops if I really love a book. My fellow bookworms deserve to know all about the awesomeness.
I can only hope to touch readers just as deeply in 2016. I'm taking a break just to write this blog post and then... back to the grind.
This year, I stepped outside of my reading comfort zone. Incest, dub-con, insanely violent torture, and a whole list of books containing subject matter I never would've read, I tried this year... just because. The thing is some of the storylines were gritty, and nothing was sugarcoated. I read the synopsis and went into each book knowing what the hell I was about to read. There was no trickery, no deceit. And you know what? I was floored by some phenomenal writing.
The best thing about reading is you can learn so much. And really, I have to give a great round of applause to authors who write some insane shit. You all have imaginations that are both fascinating and scary lol.
This year, I found a lot of new to me authors due to blogs I subscribe to. Bloggers, I can't thank you enough for rating and reviewing. Authors read too! I'm not usually big on recommendations, but I've found some cool reads due to blog posts. I also learned about a few books due to Facebook groups. I may not participate in many groups, but I check out links if the blurbage sounds intriguing.
I didn't complete a Goodreads Reading Challenge this year because lists make me anxious. I'm also an author. Sometimes leisure reading has to be put on the backburner to get a story done, but if I don't read, I'm not a happy camper. Double edged sword.
Still deciding if I want to do a GR challenge for 2016. I have a few days to woman up and dive in or say screw it.
I know you're probably wondering, "Okay when the hell are you releasing something, Harper?" 2016 is going to be INSANE. I have a few plans in motion regarding goals I'd like to attain. I also have three in-person appearances at various conferences. If you're in the Big Apple, New Jersey, CT, or PA, you should totally come out and meet me! I'll be adding appearances to the Goodreads Events tab once we hit the new year.
If you don't hear from me for a bit, it's because I'm writing but know that I'm working hard to get you brand new material. LENGTHY brand new material. I know folks dig the Kinky Connect Chronicles shorts but lol I keep getting inquiries regarding a full-length novel. My plan for winter releases is still on which is why I need to get the freak off the Internet and get back to writing.
And that's all folks.
Here's to reaching big goals in 2016. I wish you all a very safe and Happy New Year! Happy Reading!
