My Poetic Oath
I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:
I will respect the verse of all poets in whose steps I walk. Their path has not been an easy one, but they shine the way for me.
I will use words with strict economy, for each has great value and needs no brace to stand alone.
I will remember there is meaning, shape, and sound to poetry, and measure each ingredient carefully.
Finally, I will share my love of words freely to all those who seek comfort in poetry.
