Cara Bastone is one of my auto-read authors, and every time she announces a new book, I immediately go into eager waiting mode. I never hesitate to set high expectations for her stories because she always delivers.🌷

I was deeply invested in Roz and Vin. To say I was rooting for them would be an understatement. As a reader, I felt like I was right there inside their marriage crisis, experiencing the agony and frustration with them. It’s the kind of story that makes you want to reach into the pages and shout, “Just talk to each other!” The miscommunication…the lack of proper communication? was almost painful to witness. If you’ve read this book, you know exactly what I mean.

But that emotional tension is also what makes the story so powerful.

Cara Bastone doesn’t simply write romance. She writes about people about love that exists alongside heartbreak, trauma, and grief. Her stories gently guide readers through those complicated emotions while still delivering moments that make your heart ache in the best way.

I especially loved the way drawing was used as a way to process grief and trauma. That aspect felt so tender and meaningful, and I found myself wishing for even more scenes of Roz sketching Vin. I also appreciated that the emotional growth wasn’t placed solely on Roz’s shoulders Vin had to step out of his comfort zone too, and watching that transformation unfold felt honest and real.

This isn’t your typical boy-meets-girl romance. It asks readers to sit with complicated emotions and to read between the lines of what the characters are feeling and struggling to say. It might not work for everyone especially if miscommunication tropes aren’t your favorite but for me, that emotional complexity is part of what makes Cara Bastone’s writing so special.

Because if we’re being honest, how often in real life is it actually easy to say the things that matter most?

Cara Bastone is a phenomenal storyteller, and I’m endlessly grateful for the heart she pours into her books. I can’t wait to see what she writes next. ...more "
