To an extent, I'm not sure where my ideas come from for my novels, though I think they are inspired by reading and events in everyday life. I take a long time before deciding to write a novel, and I hone ideas in my mind, making sure I have a beginning middle and end before I start. It's only when that has happened, do I decide what genre I want to write in.

For short stories, a lot of the time I've got the ideas based on a story competition theme, or from a title I've made up that I like.

Hope that answers your question.(less)

And that's no different for my novella Two Dogs At The One Dog Inn - initial ideas concerning its structure came to me early on (while on holiday in the Isle of Wight, UK), i.e correspondence between two women via emails.

It all came together in my head as a rough skeleton of a plot while visiting an inn in Kent called The Dog Inn; and I wrote the novella over a period of 3 months for a novella competition. Although I didn't stand a chance of winning as I'd sent the first draft only for the comp. (on the day of the deadline) it was instructive to myself that intense writing over months can be very productive. I then set about editing it over and again over the course of three or four months more.(less)

David Griffin I am delighted to announce the publication of my debut novel The Unusual Possession of Alastair Stubb (gothic/magical realism).

Here is the blurb:

The Unusual Possession of Alastair Stubb is a gothic terror of the highest order, delivering a dream-like and hallucinatory reading experience that promises to reveal secrets both disturbing and astonishing.

Do you dare meet the Stubbs?

A weird and wonderful gothic tale that will enthral any fan of Mervyne Peake and magical realism. The Stubbs will terrify and delight every reader. By turns thrilling, disturbing and seductive. The Unusual Possession of Alastair Stubb

Thank you for your interest.

David Griffin Hi, I've been recommending my own book again to my Goodreads friends (well, you would, wouldn't you... ;-) and think that again, I might have recommended it more than once to some people, seeing as I've been recommending different days and I don't think Goodreads remembered the first ones.... if you see what I mean...

Basically, if you've received more than one recommendation for Two Dogs At The One Dog Inn from me, I do apologise.

David Griffin Hi, I've been recommending my own book Two Dogs At The One Dog Inn to all my friends on Goodreads. But I've had the idea I might be recommending more than once to the same person - if so, I'm really sorry about that - hope it doesn't get on your nerves....

If you enjoy magical realism with a dose of literary paranormal though, there's a good chance you will enjoy reading the novella Two Dogs At The One Dog Inn. :-)
