After author Jessica "Jess" Alter published the Dome trilogy (An epic social science fiction trilogy filled with sex, tech, and firearms), she began the Cryptid series. Combining cryptid lore and the modern scientific world with unexpected and thrilling results, 'Til Undeath Do Us Part was released on multiple ebook platforms. The second book in the Cryptid series, Man and Brother, continued the adventure begun in 'Til Undeath Do Us Part.

Currently, Jess Alter is working with Longplay Games on books set in the Smugglers of Cygnus galaxy. Her latest book, Final Lap, is the first in this setting.

Inspiration comes from all over, but most of the ideas which I run with germinate from vivid dreams.

The setting for the Dome Trilogy was inspired by a dream and refined by a century of extraordinary utopian and dystopian science fiction. I always liked the idea of arcologies as a social science fiction settings: They combine both the dream of an immaculate and ordered world and the nightmare of an oppressive and controlled world. Individual opinion is, as ever, the deciding factor.(less)

I was fortunate to have great fantasy and science fiction authors like Ursula K. LeGuin, Madeleine L'Engle, and Marion Zimmer Bradley to light my way.

Though, true and funny, some people thought I was a man because I go by Jess on a certain social media outlet and used a book cover photo instead of an author portrait. Since January 2015, I've used an author portrait and had no problems.

Tink, tink, tink . . . [FEEDBACK NOISE]

So what have I been doing that I am not updating?

Uh, well . . .  traveling, mostly. I’m scouting locations for the third book in the Cryptid Series and am being inspired for later book location settings.

I’ve also added editor to my résumé.  I have worked on a few indie books, I’m mentoring a novice writer, and I’m trying to keep moving forward.

I Tweet. I spent a good amount of time boosting aut

“We have been ordered, sorted, controlled, and forced to live and die in a world which refuses to acknowledge the unique gifts every human being possesses! I am a human being; I am not a color!”
Jessica Alter, Solaray Dawn

“Science fiction is humanity's way of celebrating who we can be instead of lamenting who we are.”
Jessica Alter

“Oh, stop being such a baby about this”
Jessica Alter, Man and Brother

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Frank Herbert, Dune

“I write to discover what I know.”
Flannery O'Connor

“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”
