Maid Service, a novel with several firsts
I have a new novel out, the first for quite a while. This is Maid Service which is written as Peter Birch and published by Sweetmeats Press.

Maid Service is a first for me in several ways. I've never worked with Sweetmeats before, at 96,000 words it's the longest novel I've ever written, and most importantly, it's illustrated. I've always felt my novels would be improved by the addition of illustrations, and so I was delighted to be offered this chance. The artist Sweetmeats chose is the highly skilled Giorgio Verona, whose beautifully executed pieces add a whole new dimension to my work. Most of his pictures are probably a little too rude for Goodreads, but here's a small sample...
Maid Service is a long, complicated book, a saga of corruption and obsession across several decades, so not easy to summarise, but I'd like to think it's worth reading, although not for the faint hearted. In fact it's been called harsh, which I don't deny, but in writing it I've tried hard not to whitewash the darker, more selfish side of BDSM as it's been played out on the English scene over the last half-century. The characters and incidents are drawn from my own experiences - of the British public school system, of London life and of BDSM - now stretching back over more than thirty years, mixed in with influence from scandals and less well known but equally shocking events. Oh, and it's heavily focussed on spanking, but I hope anybody who has read my work would expect nothing less!

The Big, Bad Book of Spanking Positions is now out!
Finally, close to a year after arranging the main photoshoot, the Big, Bad Book of Spanking Positions is out. That's not so very long though, when I've been working on the idea for several years. There were smaller photoshoots and magazine articles along the way, but I was determined not to go ahead until I'd found the ideal models and a studio that could provide me with the set I wanted. One look at the beautiful Chloe and I knew I had my sub, while I've had the privilege of knowing the wonderful Leia-Anne Woods for years and she makes the perfect Domme. The talented and versatile Amber West completed our team, the shoot went ahead at Blingshot Studio all was ready, except that I decided the book needed appendices and that it took months to find the right publisher and get it into production. Of all the books I've written, over 130 now, this was probably the most fun to do. I've always loved spanking and have been a dedicated enthusiast since I first persuaded a young lady to go across my knee back in the late '70s. I'm not sure how many of my fellow enthusiasts I've met since then, but I had no difficulty in finding interesting reminiscences to include in the book. If anything, the problem was that most of the modern ones were too similar and too easy, meetings arranged online or encounters at clubs. I only put the best of those in, and made a special effort to search out older examples, from back when it look a lot of effort for a woman to realise her fantasy, or not...
I like to think the results are worth reading, and an interesting historical record as well as arousing, although definitely one for spankers, and as I'm the author it's dedicated almost entirely to the warming of female bottoms rather than male.
My only regret is the cover, as the book came out just when the big online retailers were starting to get prissy about showing flesh, but at least now I have an excuse to show it off as it ought to be!

A Long Absence
I don't know if anybody has noticed, but it's been a while since I've updated this blog, or done anything else much to do with erotic fiction for that matter. That's mainly because I've been writing detective fiction, something I've always enjoyed but a change motivated at least partially out of despair at all the restrictions currently being placed on authors of erotica. This largely seems to be the result of a prissy attitude on the part of large, US based online retailers, but I'd rather not write at all than water down my work, that or go underground and retain my integrity while starving in the traditional garret.*
The other thing I've been doing is working on my flagship project, The Big, Bad Book of Spanking Positions. This is now ready to go and I hope to be able to announce it in a few days. Watch this space.
* my house has quite a large garret as it goes, while I could do with losing a bit of weight.

A Mini Rant
I really do despair sometimes. Last year I released "Hotspots", a free collection of bits and pieces from my other work. On the amazon page for Hotspots it states - "A fine selection of extracts from erotic stories and articles by world-renowned erotica author Peter Birch." I then get a one star review as follows - "It's not what I expected. It's more an instruction manual than a novel ...won't be recommending it to anyone for sure."
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!! Did I say it was a novel? Is there the slightest implication that it's a novel, anywhere? Can this person actually read!? Oh well, if I am going to get one star reviews I suppose it's some consolation that they come from people with all the mental agility of a stuffed raccoon.

The Big, Bad Book of Spanking Positions
Once upon a time I used to write for Forum Magazine. One of my articles was a Top 20 of spanking positions, just a playful, light-hearted piece but illustrated with pictures of all twenty different spanking positions. We did the pictures in a studio in Basingstoke, with a very pretty model in riding gear being put through her paces in a stable set. It all went well, but I had to cut out a lot of good positions to get down to just twenty.
That was in 2010 and I've been experimenting ever since. A second, bigger photoshoot and lots of minor excursions pushed the total up to forty, then sixty, by which time I was determined to create a really big, colourful guide. This is now in production, and will be coming out as a coffee table style hardback with 40 or more colour illustrations covering as many as 70 positions and some of the key moments beloved of all spanking enthusiasts. Here's a sample, a very mild one -
The models are Leia-Anne Woods, who's usually on the receiving end but really looks the part as the Domme, and Chloe Toy, who must be among the cutest girls ever to take a spanking on camera.

The Girl Thieves - Extract 5
This is an extract from Part 5 of The Girl Thieves "Conquest & Consequence".
The final chapter, and most of the main characters have ended up at a BDSM club in London, including Richard. He is dressed as an RAF officer and has been thoroughly enjoying himself when things start to come unstuck.
Richard came a little closer, to assure himself of a good view as Pepper found herself a seat, on which she took her place. Julia was twisted around, still wriggling, but pleading rather than protesting and making no real effort to escape. Pepper didn’t seem to care anyway, putting Julia in an arm lock and applying a few firm swats to the rubber clad ball so sweetly presented, only to break off as Bernie the dungeon monitor appeared.
‘That is inappropriate behaviour,’ he announced. ‘Non-consensual spankings are...’
‘Mind your own business,’ Pepper answered, still holding Julia in place. ‘She’s my girlfriend and I’ll spank her when I please!’
‘No,’ Bernie went on, raising a finger to illustrate his point. ‘Consent can only exist within the parameters of...’
‘Just shut up, you pompous little twit!’ Richard said quietly and buried his face in his hands, only to find that his moustache had come loose when he looked up once more.
Three of the doormen were also approaching, John among them.
‘Time to move on, perhaps,’ he said to himself as he began to back carefully through the crowd, emerging onto the open floor to see Dave Wagg still by the dungeon equipment but now in a heated argument with Megan.
‘Oh Hell!’ he said, desperately trying to get the moustache to stick while attempting a smile for Lady Arabella Portland, who was walking toward him.
‘Hello,’ she said, her voice pure honey. ‘Are you ready to come out to your car now? And I was just thinking, perhaps you would like to spank me too?’
‘My pleasure,’ he assured her and quickly took her hand, only to look back, torn between duty to his friends and lust.
It looked as if Pepper would shortly be joining him outside anyway, while Bernie was looking towards him with more than a little suspicion. He walked on, telling himself it was in Julia’s best interests not to be seen with him anyway, while Matt could hopefully deal with Dave Wagg. With the door just a few paces away he finally gave up on the moustache, tossing it aside as he made for the welcoming rectangle of night sky visible outside, just as Megan caught up with him, to take his free hand in an urgent grip.
Cool air struck his face and he was clear, save for the doormen to either side and the gigantic figure of T-bone, directly in his path, speaking a bass rumble, but not to him.
‘Pepper? Is that you, girl?’
‘Yes,’ Pepper answered defiantly.
‘So where’s that bitch Julia?’ he demanded. ‘And where’s the Don Juan guy, Richard Wickham.’

This is an extract from Part 4 of The Girl Thieves "Barefoot Bitches".
