Got the proof copy of the new novel. Someday I'll learn to layout a cover properly the first time. Already, I can tell this one will need some adjustments. I have to fix the front cover and the spine, and then there were some layout issues on the interior because I'm using Scribus for the first time to do the interior. I taught myself InDesign a while back thinking I'd splurge and use that for layouts from now on, but I didn't like it. Scribus works on the same premise, but ...it's far more int...

Revisions to FOURTH AND WRONG, the next Abe & Duff book are completed well ahead of schedule. My first draft was not as terrible as I thought it was after I gave myself some time to decompress on the work. I ended up rewriting a number of paragraphs entirely, and I'm still not 100-percent sure I like the ending at this point, but I'm happier with it than I thought I would be. How do you like the title? I'm having second thoughts. I've sent the book out to a few of my beta-rea...ders, and I hope ...

So, Amazon has a new publishing option they're touting at the moment: Kindle Vella. https://selfpublishingadvice.org/self... Essentially, this is a pay-per-chapter sort of system, much like Wattpad did a while back, but unlike Wattpad's bizarre system where you can only "sell" your work if their team approves it first (which involves filling out forms and then hoping you hear back from them--which I never have--and is just another mystery in the whole cult...ural disaster tha...

I finished the first draft of Book 1 of the new sci-fi series a little while ago. This thing is a beast. Final word count ended up being 98.5K, and I'm still unsure about the last three chapters. Probably need to rethink it, definitely need to rewrite it, but like they say: You can't fix what ain't written, so it's written, and it just needs to be fixed. I had hoped to make this thing a single book, like a one-off I was just going to do for fun, but the story ended up being a... lot bigger than ...

I'm nearing the end of my second WIP of this year. It's a hard sci-fi novel about a down-on-their-luck crew who find a strange woman on an uninhabited planet who is more than she seems, and a major corporation will do anything to get her back. Basically, it's me trying to recreate Firefly, I think. Still, I've had a ton of fun writing this book. I love the characters and the banter. It's getting away from me, though. This beast is up over 91,500 words, and I've still got at least a chapter or...

If you're in the market for some one-of-a-kind, magically good gear--check my friend Emily's page. She's the ArchSeamstress of the greater Milwaukee Region. Cleverness, wit, and wisdom are generally traits of this House. (Sometimes I'm not entirely sure I should be a Ravenclaw - I'm not pa...rticularly clever or witty. But ...
