I live, write and play in the Pacific Northwest, not far from vampire country. I love genre fiction, and with Clark, I've written twelve books.

Our first book, published two decades ago, was about a cowboy and vampire falling in love. This sexy, authentically Western, laugh-out-loud series also has a serious metaphysical edge and has now moved into cult-classic status. We wrote four books in the Cowboy and Vampire Collection and then branched out into science fiction, alt-history, and romance. As you can tell by our moving from genre to genre, our interests are eclectic. We like to explore and shake up tropes.

As for my bio, I was born in Washington, DC, and spent many years working as a journalist and science writer. I love to hike, hang o

The first is from the novel Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, but its not Anna and Vronsky, as one might expect. Rather, the eventual relationship of Kitty and Levin, the secondary characters has always cast on me a spell of warmth and calm. Their romance is a slow burn and a counterpoint to the ricocheting consuming passion of the book's namesake. But by the time Kitty and Levin, two strong personalities, finally come around to each other, you can sense the satisfying depth and certainty of their bond. They are happily in it for the long haul. The second couple is Spenser and Susan Silverman from Robert Parker's Spenser mystery series, which is about as far as one can travel from Tolstoy — in style, geographic setting and era. But the attributes of the relationships are similar. Spenser and Susan are individually strong and happy on their own, but they find themselves better together. They bestow joy, kindness and laughter on each other, and even during a painful lapse in their relationship, the depth of their bond remains profound. The writing of Parker and Tolstoy are world's apart of course but each created a compelling fictional couple that captured me in its internal reality. -Kathleen (less)
