I’ve fallen in love…
With this series.

I talk about it in my next newsletter, but wanted to share here, too.
I found the first one while looking for October Daye books (Seanan McGuire) and wow. What a ride.
I hesitate to call the series young adult, or middle grade or adult or …well, much of anything. The books are portal fantasy, but that’s not enough to describe the concept.
I found the first one in audiobook on Libby and immediately devoured the rest. (Like within two weeks?) There are eleven (IIRC) in the series and now I’m caught up and I’m sad.
In other words… check the series out.

Her sundress had a playful gathered neckline, complete with a bow and I pulled on it, delighted to see it loosen under my tug. “If I’d known it would be that easy…”
She blushed but didn’t look away as I worked the material down until I bared the top slope of her breast. Full and soft, she filled my hand when I cupped her. A low hum of pleasure fell from her lips as I teased the edge where bra and skin met with my mouth.
Laughter, shouted voices and childish giggles came to my ears.
I groaned and pressed my brow to Ivy’s.
“Maybe if we’re really quiet, they won’t know we’re here,” Ivy whispered against my lips.
Startled, I lifted my head. “You can hear them?”
She gave me a solemn look and lifted a hand to her lips. “Shhh…”
“They’ll know. Even if they didn’t hear us, they’d scent us. Besides, your bag is lying in the middle of the trail.”
I lowered her legs to the ground.
She tied the bow on her dress, tugging and adjusting until the neckline lay properly.
“I think maybe we shouldn’t have dinner at your place,” I said softly, taking her hand.
Startled, she lifted her gaze to mine.
“We need to talk,” I said, pressing my thumb to her lips. “And dinner sounds wonderful. But it might be a good idea to do all of that somewhere…less private.” Stroking her lip now, I added, “The minute I’m alone with you, and not likely to be disturbed, I’m probably going to stop thinking about anything but getting you naked.”

Howdy, do you review?

I Choose the Bear is available on NetGalley and Booksprout!
Blurb
Ivy thought she’d found one of the good ones, a nice guy who respected her wishes, the guy all of her friends liked…and then they head to his family’s lake house for a night to watch for an expected meteor shower. But Neill had his own plans in mind and when Ivy said no, he didn’t like it.
Enter the bear.
Jonah, on a hiking trip with his best friend, Liam, after the unexpected death of the clan’s Alpha, and Jonah’s grandfather, is enjoying the last few hours of freedom he’ll know for some time. He’s known for a long time he’ll be stepping into his grandfather’s shoes and with the countdown ticking away, he relishes the peace and quiet. But then it’s shattered by the shouts of an angry, frightened woman. Both Liam and Jonah take off running to investigate.
Just as they reach the edge of the property, the woman shouts, “You’re the reason why women choose the bear, Neill.”
Now…Jonah abides by the laws governing supernaturals. He doesn’t reveal himself to be a shapeshifter. But walking out there in his bear skin isn’t really revealing himself. And predators deserve to be frightened, don’t they?
And when he sees Ivy…his whole world is upended.
Now isn’t the time for him to fall in love. He has a clan to care for, challenges to hold off.
But love doesn’t believe in being convenient and Jonah and Ivy on are a collision course. Will she choose the bear…and will his bear choose her?

ExcerptDamn little fools never thought that maybe somebody who couldn’t swim might risk themselves to help them—and in bear form.
My heart squeezed all over again as the reality of what she’d done, what she’d risked hit home.
She’s ours, the bear said, speaking with more clarity than normal. Most often, his voice was a matter of images and desires, punctuated with a few simple words.
But he made this clear.
Ivy is ours.
Yes, I told him. Tonight had sealed it. Unless she pushed us away, we couldn’t let her go.
Beau went to nudge Ivy’s leg again. I gave a low growl and waited for him to look up.
Once our eyes connected, I jerked my chin to the gathering crowd.
His head bowed and he trudged away, hiding his furry little body behind the legs of our denmates.
Lowering my gaze once more to focus on Ivy, I murmured her name.
She groaned and shuddered, her thick lashes lifting.
“The bears,” she mumbled.
And fuck it all, before I could figure out what in the hell to say, a familiar tension gathered in the air.
It was like the scent of ozone before a heavy summer storm breaks, only faster. Once it started, there was nothing to do but ride it out. I bit back a curse and tried to twist so I could hide what was happening.
But it was too late…and he was too close.

One of the Best PNR Series Ever…

And it’s coming to end.
I love Nalini’s Guild Hunters series.
I love it.
I own every book, in ebook, in print and in audio.
I fell in love with the first book and it’s been a nonstop, intense ride ever since.
And…sob…it’s coming to an end.
Logically, I understand. When a series comes to its natural end, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It can actually be pretty amazing for the writer, because it means they were able to write it the way they wanted to. They had reader support and if it’s traditionally published, they had that support, too.
But…I really want to say screw logic! At least here.
Damn it.
Sigh.
I’m not ready to say goodbye to Elena, Rafael, Bluebell, Sparkle…any of them.
FYI? If you haven’t read this series, you’re missing out.

Do you love bear shifters?
Did you choose the bear?
Do you want to know how it turned out when this meme inspired a book?

If you answered yes to all three questions, then I hope you’ll sign up to review I Choose the Bear.
What would You Choose?

Inspired by that question, this book was a hugely popular campaign on Backerkit and is now releasing to the public for the first time.

I am not coming out of retirement for the Candy Thief
I can’t. Because I haven’t retired.
I’m Still HereYeah, yeah. I know. I’ve been quiet for a while.
I’m trying to keep up with life stuff. Depression has been kicking my ass and my health is kicking my ass, too.
But there’s something other stuff on top of my regular life stuff and I haven’t had the spoons.
But I’m still here, and I’m still writing.
I Choose the Bear Reviewers NeededI Choose the Bear is going to be up for preorder en masse soon and it’s already available in a few places. If you review, you can also sign up to review. I’m just taking names for now, but will be sending it out via bookfunnel in a while. Reviews just need to be fair and honest, although I do hope you like it.
Anyway.
I’ve been on been on a JD Robb reading binge. As in I’ve read like ten of the In Death books in about a month. I’d fallen behind and hadn’t realized how much I’d fallen behind.
And the incessant nagging question lingers.
Who is the Candy Thief? It can’t be Peabody, because the candy thievery predates her, right?
I’d say Sommerset, because he’d totally do it to piss Eve off, but wouldn’t he be noticed hanging around a cop shop at some point? Or would he…
I had it narrowed down to Feeney or Roarke because nobody else gets in her head that way, where she hides the candy, etc, except maybe Mira. But I don’t see Charlotte Mira crawling around the floor, climbing chairs, disassembling autochefs, just to mess with Eve’s head. She’d maybe leave candy, but not steal it.
Yet when I emailed La Nora about my suspicions, she said, nope. Putting a hole in my theory.
But I can’t think of else it could be!!!
Except…now I’m wondering about Sommerset.
