I thought my job had come to an end yesterday after finishing the last order. Last night though while playing Civ 4 I got a phone call to tell me I was needed next week after all, which is great news. I was so dreading having to back on unemployment benefit. What makes it worse is that the staff, who is supposed to be there to help, make you feel as if you are something they have stepped in. I know that is unfair as some are helpful but just too often I have had to deal with those that treat the client badly. Well I don’t have to worry about that for at least another week and I have a long weekend to add to the good day it has been.
I still have a touch of the cold I had last week. It seems to just want to hang in the background, but I seem to be over the worst of it now. It really ruined my weekend last week though it had shifted mostly by the start of the new week, that is something to be grateful for. Nothing worse than working when you have a cold weighing you down.
I ordered a new graphics tablet as since my computer upgrade last year my old one doesn’t work with my new system, no serial port. Anyways I have a new one on the way, and I am looking forwards to using it to create the cover for Banshee 2. Talking of which my wife is still reading through it but there will be some editing to some areas near the start before passing it onto my son to read. In the mean time I will soon be able to work on the front cover though I haven’t worked out what I will do for it. Still that is part of the joy of self publishing, isn’t it?

I got another rough done even though I have had that cold for the full week. I still have it and it feels worse today. I came home to go straight to bed for a couple of hours but it felt like I hadn’t had a sleep when Magz woke me. I’ll get an early night, for a Friday anyways, to try to shift it. With some luck, that and a Beechams powder, I’ll feel better tomorrow. That way I can get some editing work done.
Being filled with the cold can really make work harder. Luckily I work with some great blokes that help to keep your spirits high. It is always good to get on with those you work with. I have had jobs were the atmosphere dragged you down. It was a relief to escape at the end of the day. Not that it isn’t great to be headed home from my present job. The real test though is do you have to drag yourself to work. When you are at that stage you know the job has become depressing. Mind this week I have felt a little like that though I know that is because of illness.
Yes I know a lot of you out there will be saying. If you’re that ill you should just take the time off. Well being on minimum wage means the loss of one day is too much in financial terms. It isn’t just me that is trapped in this boat so to speak. It is the sad reality of adult life. To pay the bills I need to earn a full weeks wage so I can’t take sick days unless I really have to and the cold doesn’t count as serious enough. No I would have to be very ill indeed to take time off.
My daughter has also been suffering this week with the same thing as well as tonsillitis. Poor thing has been wrapped up on the couch during the day at the start of the week. She’s hoping to be back at school next week though we will see. She was at the doctors today again having completed her antibiotics for her throat. The doctor didn’t give her any more so that is a good sign that she is truly on the mend.
All us unhealthy people has been a strain on Magz though. She hasn’t said anything but you can tell. I will have to get her something nice for her valentines to make it up to her.

6th June 2015

Don't you just hate summer colds? I do and I've been struck down with one since Sunday. Unlike winter colds summer ones don't like to go away. No they just start to ease then slap you in the face to remind you that you haven't shaken it yet. Luckily they aren't that common. The last time I remember having one was a good few years ago when I worked in a chilled environment so you could say it wasn't a true summer cold. The first was when I was a kid and that one had me stuck indoors and not allowed out under doctors instruction. For me at the time it was like being in jail or at least how I would imagine it to be. The skies were blue and all the other kids were out enjoying themselves in the summer heat. All I could do was wipe the snot from my nose and watch them from the window. Well at least when I had the energy to pull myself from my bed as I remember sleeping a lot. This cold has been the same stealing me of my energy. I did feel better yesterday but today...
Because of this the garden has been ignored and yesterday when I did get a look I was shocked. The wild plants have overrun the strawberries. The tomatoes I planted out have died off and I will have to replant. In fact almost all of what I planted has for some reason failed. On brighter note my potatoes are doing well. As are my herbs which always seem to do well. And once I deal with the weeds the strawberries should give some nice fruit as they are in flower. I just need to shake myself free of this cold and for today's rain to pass as the weatherman promised and the war on weeds will continue.
