Well no sooner than I posted last weeks post and I was hit by computer problems. Dust had built up in the graphics card causing it to overheat which meant I had to strip it out to give it a good clean. It’s amazing how much of a dust haven the inside of a computer can be. Luckily no damage was done and my system was up and running in no time. It does go to show that Friday the thirteenth still got me even if it was in such a minor way, hehehe.
The troubles with my fence post continue. I sorted it again on Saturday but yesterday as I came home from work I noticed it was again leaning out of place. I might mean I need to tighten up the bolts and put an extra nut on each of the bolts to act as a lock to hold them secure so they don’t loosen up again. Though I’ll also have to make sure I secure the existing ones more than I seem to have managed so far. I’m sure now though that I will need to replace the post in the summer as I can’t see it surviving another year, especially when the storms hit again.
Another thing to do this weekend is to try and come up with a poem for the latest competition at Absolute Write poetry forum. This one has the theme of visions, dreams or nightmares. So far I have had only half glimmers of ideas for it nothing solid so I have my work cut out. Maybe one of those little embers might find a bit of brush to burst into life, we’ll see. I have until February the fourteenth to come up with something and make it as good as I can so not loads of time when you throw work into the mix but enough. Add some gaming to the weekend and I have a busy time over the next couple of days.

Finally the weather has brightened and my plants are beginning to throw up new growth. Today it hit twenty seven Celsius. Even though I was at work I’m enjoying it. Winter seemed to drag on for so long this year that to finally have the heat is freeing in a sense. With the good spell set to last this weekend I’m hoping to fix the post that snapped during the gales earlier this year. Though the metal braces that I put have held it up till now it is still weak. I have a replacement that a neighbour gave me which will do the job but first I have to remove the concrete holding the old one in. Out with the bolster I suppose as well as some digging. I t will be worth it though to have the garden fence standing strong. While I’m at it I can give it a lick of paint to freshen the whole thing up.
The netting Magz put over the plants seems to have kept the cats at bay. That is a relief as the last thing you need is to keep having your plants dug up. That and the cold has been trying this year. Of course no of that has stopped the weeds. I did more hoeing last week around the strawberries. It as well as the sun has brought them into bloom. Magz is now looking forward to a bumper crop to make a tart with. She has already been scouring our recipe books and the web for one. I’m not sure why though as she already knows how. Mind she is always looking to improve on the things she bakes till she is totally happy. Still it does mean I get some to take to work in my lunch box, hehehe.

The rain is keeping me from doing much in the way of gardening this weekend. I was looking forwards to it after a hard week. Yeah more trouble with that supervisor at work. He is also the one I got a lift to work from but this week things got so bad that I cut of my nose to spite my face. So now I go for the bus which adds to the length of the working day though the journey is far more pleasant than it has been recently. It might cost me more financially yet it is a small price to pay to get just a little more space between myself and Norman it is well worth it.
To add to my woes this weekend I have come down with a head cold. So maybe it is a good thing that the weather is against me for gardening. Still there is a lot that needs doing around my tiny plot. The fences that were damaged during the winter storms still have to be repaired. One at the back and the other at the side. The one at the back needs a new post, while the other one needs the panel rebuilt. I'm not sure if I will fix the one at the back as there is a hedge there that I can leave to fill in. Over the years I have kept the top of the hedge trimmed as much as I can from my side of it. Where the fence was is very bare but with the sunlight it won't take long for leaves to fill the hedge in. Of course I will need to remove the remaining fence to tidy up the appearance, make it look uniform.
That might be something to do on my coming holiday. Yes after next week I will be on holiday for a week. Not that I am going anywhere, when do I ever? So I have the garden centre to go to get those plants that I still wish to grow this year, as well as other supplies that I need for a fruitful season.
