I’ve finished editing Banshee 2 but found that my printer needs ink. So I need to wait till I can afford more before my son can read it through again. It could be after Christmas before I can get the ink though. In the meantime I’ll continue with the poems that I’ve started, which I have written more of. I will post some of them on GoodReads, though not all of them. The ones I like best will find there way onto my profile under my writing that I have posted there. I’m calling the collection Nowhere as they could be set anywhere really. I hope that they will all have that same child like voice so as to really test me. At the moment I have about six or so complete or near complete in the collection. I’m not sure how many I will in the end create but it will be something fun to do over the next couple of months by which time I should have ink for the printer.
There was a leak at work last night. As we were leaving we could hear what sounded like a river running through the main cooking hall. It turned out that one of the main water pipes had sprung a leak because of all the freezing weather. Anyways they had it fixed by the time I got to work today. One of the supervisors seems to be a dab hand at sorting things around the work. Lucky as they would have had a hard time finding a plumber at this time of year.

Well the workmen came and now we have no heating or hot water. We have no idea when we might get things fixed as the problem is with our boiler which needs a special part ordered. This all leaves us in limbo as they council have no clue how long this part might take to arrive. Yes we got nice new units but our kitchen has also be none existent plus we still have to wait till Monday before we can start getting things to normal. Why? I hear you ask. Well the plasterer and tiler are still to do their thing to finish everything off.
As you can imagine this has been a pretty stressful week. Coming home to workmen stomping through your house after a long day at work, well I don’t have to tell you. Next week doesn’t look any better even though it is the week before the holidays from work. I’m only glad all this work is being done in the summer as if it had been the winter it would be a mighty cold time we would be having.
All the stress of the last week has meant that I have been losing myself in gaming. I’ve been playing Oblivion part the The Elder Scrolls series rather than coming home to write a poem. That has been my usual routine over the past few months. Not that many of them have been that good but it does keep me writing. I have liked some of them though they need editing. Finding the extra time to do that seems beyond my reach as work takes up so much of the day. Of course without work there isn’t the money to survive is there or to get the luxuries that we save for. Like the new computer that I have been saving for which I have finally reach my target. That will mean that I can have some retail therapy tonight. Calum is looking forward to getting my old one.

It’s Halloween in Killie tonight. I know everywhere else celebrate it next week but here it has always been on the last Friday of October. Why? Well what I was told by a teacher many years ago was that it was to do with Kilmarnock being a mill town. Friday was pay day and because of this it was the only day when it made sense to hold the celebration as the kids would be sure dad had money. I don’t know if this explanation is true but it does sort of make sense. Of course I don’t really hold it these days as my two children are to old. Though my wife and daughter have fallen in to the custom over the past few years of watching horror movies. Me, well I hide up at the computer as I’m not as big a fan as I used to in younger years.
Even though we don’t officially hold Halloween Magz and Tammy do hollow out the pumpkin to make a face. While they watch their film of choice for this year they will light a candle, put it into the pumpkin and turn of the lights. This leaves me unable to see my keyboard so no working on any poems or writing in general. So I will be gaming tonight which could mean a late one for me. Luckily the clocks go back this weekend so I will have the chance to catch up on lost winks.
Talking of poems I’m still looking at that poem I mentioned last week. I’m still not happy with it. I might try to reconstruct it from the start, meaning keep what I have and use it to write another. Doing this I can use what lines I like, providing that they fit easily into the new poem, while scrapping what doesn’t work for me. I don’t often do this but it has worked in the past though not always. If it doesn’t work I will sit it to the side and come back to it at a later date.

Happy New Year, I hope it got off to a good one. For many Monday will be their first day back after the seasonal break. I like many others headed back a little sooner as you know. I feel sorry for those like my son who was working on New Years Day. I find it depressing when I have been forced to work on those days when the world is enjoying the festivities of a fresh year beginning. I’m sure I am not the only one in that category. Even though I don’t go clubbing or to any parties I still enjoy having a glass to toast at the bell in the knowledge that I can have a long lie in the following morning as I did this year.
So what are my hopes for the coming year? Well one thing I am aiming for is to write more poems from my Nowhere collection. I’m not sure how may I have at the moment but I wish to try and swell the number into the hundred mark if possible. I would also like to find the time to pen another book though I really don’t see where the energy or time would come from. Each year seems to pass faster than the last one and I find that what I plan at the start of the year is less likely to get done. Maybe a shorter list would work better. Of course as you can tell I don’t have a very long list to begin with.
One other thing that I have planned though is to tile the hall, kitchen and bathroom floors. Magz was saying last year that she would like to have slate tiles running from the front door to the back. It will cost a bit but it will be worth it if it makes the missus happy. It is going to be a big job as well as expensive though I’ll worry about all of that when I have saved the necessary to pay for it all. That will take a few months with prices ever rising.
Well all the best for the coming year.

I have three rough poems written towards the plan that I mentioned last week. When I say rough I really mean it. I will spend some time this weekend looking at them to see how to improve them. Two of them will need a complete write to give them the voice that I want. The last one is more of filling it out but I’m not sure how at the moment. It is a start that is the main thing though I have a lot of work to go before I reach my target.
Calum said he would have his room in shape for Saturday. Yes the ongoing saga of the desk continues. Provide he doesn’t get an unplanned party invite and he can get out of his kip we might get the job finished. He did splash out on a new chair which has changed some of the measurements. Now he wants the desk lower. Lucky that he got the chair before we put the desk up then as it will be attached to the wall.
Tammy has been a bit of a sore loser recently. She got a dart board for Christmas, her choice as it isn’t something I would have thought she would have wanted. Anyway her mum has been beating her since. Tammy did finally win a game the other night but sadly it was out of three and her mum won the other two. This has left my daughter feeling a bit of a sore loser. I’m glad to say that it is only in a sulky way which doesn’t last too long. I would laugh if I thought it wouldn’t make it worse for her. I’m sure with practice that she will get better and win more games against Magz.

Magz loved the chocolates and card I got her for Valentines. She hadn’t gotten me anything because of inflation driving the cost of living up. This made her feel guilty as I had so she rushed down town while I was at work and bought me some Yorkies, one of my fav chocolate bars, giving me a surprise when I got home. She didn’t have to but it was nice that she did go to the trouble.
More changes at work that will make things far more strenuous financial. I will need to get the bus once or twice a week from Monday as they want me to start an hour later when we are making haggis. This is because they are upping production and need someone to cover the retort for the extra time required to cook the cans. That had been the plan when learning the retort was put to me. Sadly the extra on my wages that would have covered the bus fare hasn’t materialised. Looking on the bright side at least with more production my job feels a little safer.
My task to write more poems to the Nowhere collection has been dead this week. As you know I am hoping to create one hundred poems but so far I have only managed nine. That leaves me a lot of work still to do. Worst still I haven’t done any editing of the ones that I have written. I suppose you can’t force it. You either have something to put down on paper or you don’t. I will have to try harder though.
