New review of "Fantastic 40" in iRead2Express by Avantika

"About the Book
If you are bored of reading a hefty book & wish to have a quick-read; I suggest this as the best option. Or perhaps, you are travelling short distance and need a pastime, Fantastic 40 is exactly what you need.
This book is a complete collection of micro-stories from various genres- sweet love, funny instances, tragic endings, paranormal activity, ideologies, lessons of life, and so on... You would find a taste of every favourite 'chat-pata' genre you like to read, at-least I did! Some of my favourites are Even In Baby Show, On an Emergency, New Reebok Shoes, Tsimasham, Last Time with My Boyfriend.
But then again, some stories i.e, PIS-ing Whole Night, Jai Baba Lokenath and so on.. didn't quite appeal to me. I couldn't understand the character of 'Mama' and his existence throughout the book in bits and pieces.
I enjoyed reading the ideologies, the horror and the tragic endings the most; unfortunately that can't be said for the stories that ignited 'humor'.
The author has a very strong sense of writing; no-doubts about that. I feel it is comparatively an easier task to write a book in 50,000 words, but expressing the same series of emotions in mere 500-1000 words... Superb! These micro-stories or super-short stories (as I like to call it) are very well written, crisp and concise and wonderfully presented to keep the reader engrossed int he story.
I must say, once you start with these series of micro-stories you would not be able to put the book down; 'just one more chapter' is all I kept telling myself. This book is like 'spicy-chilli golgappas of Kolkata', you just can't stop at one.

The book cover is beautiful with nice illustration and expresses all the expressions one would feel while reading this book.
Writing style
Concluding in one word: Suspence, you can't predict what would happen next. My favourite's like Even In Baby Show, New Reebok Shoes and Last Time with My Boyfriend had completely unexpected endings. And being a super-short story, it doesn't really give you the chance to comprehend what would happen next... Enjoyed the writing style!!
I rate this book 3 stars, and encourage more readers to enjoy the quick-read."

Here's a submission call for an upcoming paperback paid anthology to be compiled and edited by veteran Bengali author S. Bandyopadhyay. Our previous works were:-
1. Social Networking Anthology
2. Love & War Anthology
3. Dreams Anthology
*** Author’s copy, Honourarium, Goodies and Certificate for all shortlisted authors ***
Guidelines for submission: -
Theme: NATURE ('Nature' can be interpreted as Mother Nature, Human Nature, Wildlife, Travelogues, Travel Story etc.)
- Story / Article (~2000 words)
- Poem (~30 lines)
>> Word limits and reasonably flexible depending on the literary need, logical flow of thoughts and quality of contents
>> Multiple entries and co-authoring allowed but the entire content should be in English and strictly unpublished
>> No submission charges. Participants need to contribute Rs. 2200 (per story / article) or Rs 1800 (per poem) ONLY if the submitted writeup clears editorial review for paperback publication
>> Entries to be mailed as MS Word or PDF files with detailed author bio (350-500 words) & 2 HD photos to: nature.anthology@gmail.com
