Amy Bai has been, by order of neither chronology nor preference, a barista, a numbers-cruncher, a paper-pusher, and a farmhand. She likes thunderstorms, the enthusiasm of dogs, tall boots and long jackets, cinnamon basil, margaritas, and being surprised by the weirdness of her fellow humans. She lives in Maine with two very goofy sheepdogs.

Sword will be available on February 10th. My publisher has had some issues with setting up pre-orders this time, for some reason, and so we're just waiting for Amazon to put that pre-order option up. I hope it happens before the 10th, but I honestly don't know.

If the pre-order option never shows up, I'll personally send anyone who wants one an OMGOMGMYBOOKISOUTANDYOUCANBUYITPLEASE email on the 10th. A super-chipper email, with an elaborate Emoticon Dance Of Joy, subtle notes of Author Anxiety, and maybe a side of Irish coffee and scones. :)

“There was a sound of steel meeting steel. Devin flung a desperate look over his shoulder, saw Hewet fending off two men behind him, and looked ahead in time to see ten men in light armor ride out of the trees up ahead and drive straight for him. He almost swallowed the flute.

He threw an arm over his face, too shocked to be terrified, and waited to die.”
Amy Bai, Sword

“You'll have more than enough people underestimating you in your lifetime, Kyali Corwynall. You cannot afford to be one of them.”
Amy Bai, Sword

“Imagination is the golden-eyed monster that never sleeps. It must be fed; it cannot be ignored.”
Patricia A. McKillip

“Literature is a textually transmitted disease, normally contracted in childhood.”
Jane Yolen, Touch Magic: Fantasy, Faerie & Folklore in the Literature of Childhood

“And for adults, the world of fantasy books returns to us the great words of power which, in order to be tamed, we have excised from our adult vocabularies. These words are the pornography of innocence, words which adults no longer use with other adults, and so we laugh at them and consign them to the nursery, fear masking as cynicism. These are the words that were forged in the earth, air, fire, and water of human existence, and the words are:

Love. Hate. Good. Evil. Courage. Honor. Truth.”
Jane Yolen, Touch Magic: Fantasy, Faerie & Folklore in the Literature of Childhood

“The very least you can do in your life is figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof.”
Barbara Kingsolver, Animal Dreams
