I sold my first short story to The Horror Show Magazine at the age of seventeen and I've been writing ever since. An award-winning movie was based on my first novel, MINDFULNESS AND MURDER, and I was also nominated for a Lambda Award.

A former newspaper editor and author of more than a dozen novels and two screenplays, I currently live in Tupelo, Mississippi right down the street from the house where Elvis grew up..

I left several hints in the first two books that Noah was not expected to live, which explains some of Wiley's puzzling behavior, such as why he did not send Noah off to a deaf school. He knew their time was limited. Everyone did. Wiley's family dealt with it by keeping their distance. People do odd things when faced with such a situation. I always knew that book three was going to be about losing Noah - but also moving on. It was going to be about how life goes on even when we think it can't. It goes on, because it has to. I was afraid Noah would think I was a doofus for writing this book, but when I reached the end I realized he was on my side because this is his story - the story of how one small, fragile and seemingly insignificant life can have a tremendous impact. Ultimately this is a very hopeful, happy book and I hope readers will give it a chance.(less)
