Game Talk - Joe X Young

If ever there were an individual to be described as a genre visionary, Joe 'X' Young would be in the running. For members of both the Get Writing Horror and Get Reading Horror, his passion and commitment are undeniable. Always with an eye on the big picture for horror writers to gain both traction and mileage in the genre, how could we not talk game? 1. For those who don't know, who are you? My name is Joe X Young and I am the shadow on the wall of the horror author community. I’m the author...

Game Talk - Kayleigh Dobbs

My earliest memory of Kayleigh is some years ago at a FantasyCon in Scarbourough, if memory serves. Ever the fan of the lycanthrope, what stands out for me here is her tireless work ethic in Happy Goat Horror, which I thought was a tribe of goats, rather than just the Head Goat in Charge. A relentless champion and connoisseur of the genre's written word, we'd have to talk game. 1. For those who don't know, who are you? I’m Kayleigh Dobbs, an indie author and the owner of Happy Goat Horror,...

Game Talk - Benjamin Kurt Unsworth

I can't remember when exactly I first met Ben, but what I do remember about that meeting was that wide-eyed grinning enthusiasm. It doesn't matter whether it's book, TV, film, et al. - if the conversation is horror, he wants in. That almost-rabid appetite for such, and the eloquence to discuss it at length means we get to talk game. 1. For those who don't know, who are you? I am a writer of horror and weird, speculative short stories, as well as a reviewer/article writer for a number of...

Game On.

I'm sat here on a Friday night near the end of January enjoying some much-needed quiet time. Despite me having bought a ticket to a thing tonight, after the day I've had (which included picking family up from the airport), I've opted for a quiet night in to rest and catch up on some work. 'All work and no play...' Anyhow. The past year has been my busiest yet. Also one of milestones. Having hit a record number of seven conventions on both sides of the Atlantic. Taking on an additional mentee...

All A Matter Of Time.

I was writing this entry on 30th December 2025, the eve of New Year's Eve. I'll be out on the town for NYE, so right now - relatively speaking - is quiet time to catch up and reflect on a thing or two. Such as the issue of time, a commodity I find myself lacking in. Or, at the very least, never seeming to have enough. Which might indicate that I'm doing something wrong. Or, at the very least, could be doing something better. What comes to mind right now is the Hedonic Treadmill, or hedonic...

World FantasyCon 2025

Selfie while settling into the British Fantasy Awards 2025 ceremony. l-r: Kayleigh Dobbs, Teika Bellamy, Steve Toase, and me. This is (at least at the time of writing), my last convention this year. Which brings the yearly total (at least, at this time of writing) up to seven. Let that sink in. Without getting too deep into the specifics of 'game' (read: how I do what I do), there's the actual job of writing, editing said writing, getting said writing published, blah, blah, blah. Hitting the...

Welcome Back To The Capital.

View from the 38th floor at Bokan: looking across the river as the sun sets over the capital. In case you didn't know, I'm from London U.K. Born and raised in the capital, and proud of. Apart from a brief stint at university (in Roker, Sunderland, of all places) in my early twenties, I've always lived in London. Not planning on living anywhere else either. The area I live in the South West of the city is an area called Tooting (where Robert Lindsay's character in Citizen Smith was from). For...
