What Lies (Existential Angst, #1) by Willow Madison
Taken without a trace. Held by a sadist intent on loving her.

He said I was the only perfect woman in the world. It’s why he had to have me.
“The game today, Larissa, is called pick your poison.”
He took me while I was sitting alone in my backyard. I had my feet cooling in the pool, face heating in the sun when his shadow eclipsed all happiness four days ago. I don’t remember any sounds or words, only waking up here…and his games.
“I expect you to either make a choice, or don’t.”
In this box of horrors, he wanted me to find my purpose. I thought I already had—save my heart from pain and hold out for freedom. Turns out, I wasn’t wrong. Only my perceptions were. And he’s giving me a chance to choose again.
“I’m going to hurt you.”
I’ve been a monster for him, a perfect version of myself. I don’t think I can pretend that I haven’t liked it.
Whoever said knowledge is power wasn’t chained up when they said it.

What Lies is a prequel to What Love and should be read first.
Trigger Warning: Contains explicit scenes, on-page violence, the dubiest of dub con, blood, a dark captor - captive romance, a jealous / possessive / obsessive Alphahole, and gripping psychological suspense. Also loads of angst (it’s in the title after all). No cheating. Author’s version of happy for now.

What Love (Existential Angst #2) by Willow Madison
It doesn’t help to face monsters. They catch up with you no matter what.

Bars and doors aren’t what hold me captive now. It’s the hope of something more that cages me still.
“Love is a choice, even under the worst circumstances.”
It’s as if the clock has rewound, and I’m back to being the sheltered girl he’d seen in a park. The two years with him are like the books on my shelf—as faded as an unread tale.
“I want your tears, Larissa.”
Though the players have changed, it’s still a game we play, neither of us aware of any rules, or who’s winning. He treats me the way a man does when he knows exactly what he wants. And he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get it.
“Your heart never belonged in a cage.”
One word—free—eclipses everything. Nothing else matters. Turns out, though, just as many bad things happen in the light as in the dark.
What was once lost doesn’t have to be all that’s found…if I can survive.

What Lies is a prequel to What Love and should be read before starting this book.
Trigger Warning: Contains explicit scenes, deep dive into trauma bonding / Stockholm syndrome aftermath, referenced self-harming, blood, a twisted dark romance, a jealous / possessive / obsessive Alphahole, and gripping psychological suspense. Also loads of angst (it’s in the title after all). No cheating. A well-paced, slow burn to author’s version of happy ever after.

Have a friend who loves dark romances, free books, and reviewing? Let them know about the ARCs and they can sign up to receive early copies of What Lies & What Love too 😊

Thank you for your support!

Addictive, intense, & unlike anything else . . .

My new website is finally up! I'm super duper f@ck excited about it and just want to run around doing my happy dance butt naked. *ahem* I've decided to 'expose' myself in a more dignified fashion though...

A few of the groups I belong to offer a section for authors to post a li’l something by way of introduction and advertisement. I’ve decided to treat it more as a way of interacting. If you want to know more about my books, it’s a simple matter of clicking onmyprofileor Published Workspageaft...

What excites you?

I didn't have to think about what my answer would be to this question today - it was obvious!

First, I learned a new word. *clapping gleefully* That is always exciting for me. Not that I'd win a contest or anything for my vocabulary, but I've fantasized before about a path in my life that might've made me an etymologist. I'm only hobbyist-level. I still hold a special place in my heart for the word melancholy though. A first love should always be cherished IMO.

Oh, the word was atavistic. Cannot wait to use it in a book now. *more clapping*

My second excitement comes in the form of seeing my baby walk. No, not a literal baby. A literary baby. I finally have my first series available in paperback - a monumentally huge accomplishment that has me pinching myself. In honor of baby's first steps, I'm offering a giveaway on here for True Nature. It starts tomorrow and my hands are going to be numb - no, you pervs, not from that - from clapping!

I hope my first babes find loving foster homes *sniffle*

So, what excited you today??

Can someone please explain...

This isn't a rant or even a pulpit-thumping speech. Promise. I truly wanna understand a phenomenon that I've noticed.

***Why would a person continue to read a series of books that s/he finds unpleasant?***

I get reading the first book in a series and deciding that it's no gouda, just not the kinda cheese that particular mouse enjoys consuming. Fair enough.

...But then, why the subsequent book reviews/ratings??? Why keep going with a series that is obviously unpalatable?

Is there a psychological or sociological explanation for this phenomenon? Does OCD alone explain it and is there a preponderance of OCD among series readers? Is it an offset of masochism? Narcissism? Low self-esteem/high self-esteem? A fatalistic outlook? An optimistic one? ....I'm just really thinking that there has to be something that explains the mechanism behind this type of behavior.

I know for myself, that I'll cut off a series that is no longer working for me at any time within the book sequence. No compunction about it, I'll forgo the next book without a look back. I have no driving need to continue to the bitter end with something that just isn't for me.

So I'm at a complete loss as to an explanation for this phenomenon...
