J.R. Smith's Blog: More About Me

Back at it!
Now that I have finished and am waiting on official graduation from Full Sail University with a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing for Entertainment, I am back in the "push your book" and "write the next part," which is part 3 of the series. Part 2 is sitting with the editor now.
That being said, you can check me out on Amazon. You can find my first book, "Fate's Crossing (The Black Blood Legacies #1)", here as well. Both in paperback and Kindle Unlimited. http://www.amazon.com/J-R-Smith/e/B00... <-- This is where it is at! Of course, there are other sources.
Such as the Linkville Press home site, http://www.linkvillepress.wix.com/home , where you can purchase a copy that will be signed by me.
It is available in paperback over on Barnes & Noble as well. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/fates...
So, I am back in the game, y'all.

Results of the contest I entered & flash sale
Well....
I didn't win. *sad face* But it's okay. It got exposure for my book, which helps. So it's still a bit of a win.
Recently, to celebrate a Linkville Press author's birthday, we had a flash safe (or should I say giveaway) on Google Play (our newest source!) of all our books currently available via that platform. We tallied the downloads from the two day event and well it was surprising for me.
My book, Fate's Crossing, tied for the third most downloaded book in the house. Granted, only 16 copies went out BUT that is 16 more copies out there and 16 more possible reviews (if everyone reviewed it.. ideally...). So it goes a long way. :) Word of mouth people - it does work.
We plan on having more flash sales in the future for special events. So I will be sure to post it here! :)

Approach to writing: something unorthodox?
I recently had someone send me some notes on my debut novel, Fate's Crossing. I won't reveal names but I will speak to one thing they mentioned.
They felt like it wasn't ready for publication and that it didn't follow the typical 3 act structure.
Okay, I can understand the last part because it doesn't purely adhere to that structure. It kind of does but it kind of doesn't. And I've always been taught that is okay. Some of the most successful works have gone against the grain. Not saying mine will wind up among the greats but you never know right? Thing about this is the fact that as I was writing and formulating parts 1 and 2 and now 3 something kind of unorthodox popped into my head. The whole series stands as the 3 act structure of the story.
Part 1, Fate's Crossing, is the set up and preparation. Part 2, The Midnight Trial, sets up some of the conflicts and complications the characters face. Part 3, Full Circle, is the climax and resolution of the series.
I know this is unusual but I saw the series as the story itself, one part bleeding into the next.
Thoughts?

New to GR's Author Program
Hi guys! I am new to GR's author program. You can see my bio on my GR profile. It's pretty good in terms summarizing my life. Ha ha.
On this blog, you will see a wide variety of things. Sometimes there will be some mindless ramblings and random life updates as I need a place to get things off my chest. Sometimes there will be nerdy fan-girl type moments (I said I am a nerd and I mean it! Ha!). But most of what will be posted here will be in relation to my journey as a new indie author and things associated with my growing series, The Black Blood Legacies. Speaking of which...
I have a brand new book out as of November 8, 2014 titled Fate's Crossing (The Black Blood Legacies) (Volume 1) [[How it is listed on Amazon by the way.. *cough*]]. You can check out the summary blurb on my profile and check out my book entry to see the front cover. It is from Linkville Press. I hope you will help me get the word out and I will return the favor as time and what not allows!
So sit back and enjoy the journey that is my mind! xD
